In 1976, Radiant Futures, Orange County’s first domestic violence shelter opened its doors, and it was the third in the nation.

Fifty years later, Radiant Futures is still here for survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, with dignity, choice, and hope.

Giving Day is Thursday. Join us and give $22. To continue the work for the next 50years.

For 50 years, Orange County has shown up for survivors. Yesterday, we asked what comes next, and the answer was clear: we do it together.

Thank you to the leaders who shared their voices at our Safety Panel Discussion: Building Safer Communities:

• Krista Colon, Executive Director, California Partnership to End Domestic Violence
• Lt. Daniel Gonzalez, Orange County Family Justice Center Commander, Anaheim Police Department
• Mark Lee, Chief Executive Officer, Radiant Futures
• Natalie Rubalcava, Council Member, City of Anaheim

Thank you also to Dr. Anita Polite-Wilson of Dr. Anita Enterprises, Inc. for guiding the conversation with care, and to everyone who joined us in the room.

The work you do every day keeps our communities safe, and it gives us real hope for the next 50 years.

Telling someone about abuse takes enormous courage. How we respond can shape what happens next.

When someone trusts you with their story, you can:
+ Say “I believe you”
+ Listen without judgment
+ Let them decide what comes next
+ Ask how you can support them

Every survivor deserves to be believed.

For many survivors, leaving a beloved pet behind feels impossible. Up to 48% delay leaving or stay because they fear for their animal’s safety.

Radiant Futures is the only domestic violence shelter in Orange County that accepts pets, because healing is better with the whole family.

Worried about a pet? Reach out, and we can talk through your options together.

Some of what we have all heard about domestic violence is not the whole story. It is not always physical. It is not caused by stress or alcohol. And it can happen to anyone, of any gender, age, or background.

Swipe to learn what is true, and share it with someone who might need it. Every survivor deserves to be believed, and you can help start that conversation.

1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experience physical violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime. Behind every number is a person with strength and choices.

This October, you can help. Learn the signs, check in on someone you care about, and be a safe place to land.

It began in 1981 with a Day of Unity, when advocates across the country came together to honor survivors and support one another. By 1987 it had grown into a full month, and in 1989 Congress officially recognized October as DVAM.

Here in Orange County, Radiant Futures has been walking alongside survivors since 1976. This month, we celebrate every survivor who has chosen their own path forward, and the community that makes it possible.

When survivors have space to name what they lived through, something powerful happens. In our Personal Empowerment Program, Charlotte found language for her experience, and with it, understanding. She learned how trauma can live in the body, and began listening to herself with care. She learned to recognize warning signs she once thought didn’t apply to her.

Her journey is still unfolding, and she is turning survival into the power to protect herself and her children. This DVAM, Charlotte shows us what a voice of tomorrow sounds like.
