As Memorial Day approaches, the Fulton Police Department wants to remind everyone the importance of this holiday and to provide safety tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Memorial Day is a time to honor the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives in service to our country. While many of us look forward to the long weekend, barbecues, and gatherings ... it is crucial to remember the true significance of this day.

Let's take the time to reflect on the sacrifices made by our fallen heroes and show our gratitude for their service.

Safety Tips:

๐Ÿš™ TRAVEL SAFELY: if you are traveling this weekend ... plan ahead and allow extra time for traffic; ensure your vehicle is in good condition, wear your safety belt, and avoid distractions while driving ... DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!

๐Ÿ’ง WATER SAFETY: if you are spending time at our fishing pier, nearby beaches or traveling to watery areas ... always supervise children and inexperienced swimmers; wear life jackets when boating and follow all posted safety guidelines.

๐Ÿ” GRILL RESPONSIBLY: if you are having a barbecue ... keep grills and smokers in well-ventilated areas, away from structures and flammable materials; never leave the grill or smoker unattended and keep a fire extinguisher nearby.

๐Ÿšฐ HYDRATE & PROTECT YOURSELF: if you are spending time outdoors ... stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and protect yourself from the sun; remember to take breaks in the shade and avoid prolonged exposure to the heat.

๐Ÿš“ RESPECT LOCAL ORDINANCES/LAWS: follow ALL local ordinances/laws, including those related to noise, fireworks, and public gatherings; be mindful of your neighbors and respectful of community spaces.

๐Ÿšจ EMERGENCY: if you have an emergency ... call 911; if you need non-emergency assistance ... call the Public Safety Center at (361) 729-1111; Telecommunications Officers & Peace Officers are available 24/7.

Memorial Day is more than just a long weekend; itโ€™s a time for us to come together as a community and pay our respects to those who have given their lives for our freedoms.

The Fulton Police Department wishes everyone a safe and reflective Memorial Day weekend.

Thank you for joining us in honoring our fallen heroes.

National Police Week occurs every May and is one of the most meaningful times of the year for the men and women who serve in blue because itโ€™s not just a ceremony - itโ€™s a powerful reminder that their sacrifice and the sacrifices of those who came before them are never forgotten.

For officers, itโ€™s a week of reflection, honor, and brotherhood, where they stand shoulder to shoulder with families of the fallen and remember exactly why they wear the badge. It reinforces the reality that every shift carries risk, but also purpose.

National Police Week gives officers a chance to pause from the daily grind, pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and feel the support of a nation that recognizes the weight they carry.

For many, itโ€™s deeply personal - names etched in memorials are not just names, but partners, friends, and family - and that connection strengthens their commitment to serve, protect, and carry on the legacy of those who are no longer here.

National Peace Officers Memorial Day is held annually on May 15th to honor law enforcement officers who have died or become disabled in the line of duty.

Please help us in remembering all who have made the ultimate sacrifice and all those who continue to make the sacrifice every day!
