Welcome Back to School!

2026–2027 School Year

Dear Lake Ridge New Tech Schools Families,

Welcome back! We are excited to welcome our students and families to the 2026–2027 school year. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigated the recent storms and severe weather that impacted our community and schools and caused the start of school to be delayed.

As we prepare to begin the school year, we want to make sure families have the information they need regarding student transportation and bus services.

Transportation Information

Information regarding your child’s assigned bus route, bus stop, and estimated pick-up and drop-off times will be posted in your students’ PowerSchool account. We encourage parents and guardians to review this information carefully before your child’s first day of attendance.

We understand that transportation is an important part of ensuring students arrive at school safely, on time, and ready to learn. While the beginning of the year may require some adjustments as routes and schedules become established, our transportation team will work diligently to provide reliable service to our students and families.

If you have questions or concerns regarding transportation services at any point during the school year, please contact the Lake Ridge Transportation Department. Our transportation partner, Indiana Central, will be happy to assist you.

Families/Community Members in need of help with the FEMA Application, see the dates/locations in Lake County below:

The Griffith Town Council and Griffith Police Department were just notified that FEMA and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) will begin Rapid Intake for Lake County residents beginning Friday.

Rapid Intake is available for Lake County residents who experienced storm-related home damage and whose homes were uninsured or underinsured.

FEMA and IDHS representatives can assist residents with:

• Starting a FEMA Individual Assistance application
• Checking the status of an existing application
• Answering questions about available FEMA assistance

Walk-ins are welcome and no appointment is necessary. Please see the attached flyer for dates, times, and locations throughout Lake County.

Residents may also apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov or call FEMA at 1-800-621-3362.

Please share this information with Griffith residents who may need assistance with their storm recovery.

IMPORTANT DISTRICT UPDATE

Dear Lake Ridge Families and Community,

As we continue to recover from the devastating storm that has impacted our schools, homes, and community, we want to provide an important update regarding the reopening of Lake Ridge New Tech Schools.

Lake Ridge New Tech Schools will remain closed on Wednesday, August 26, and Thursday, August 27, 2026.

We are grateful to share that power has now been restored to the remainder of our district buildings. While this is an important step forward, restoring power does not mean our buildings are immediately ready to safely welcome students and staff back.

Now that electricity has been restored, our maintenance, custodial, and janitorial teams are able to fully enter our buildings, assess their conditions, and begin addressing the needs of each facility. This allows us to identify and prioritize necessary cleanup, repairs, building systems, and other concerns so that each school can be properly prepared for a safe return.

We also recognize that while power has been restored to our schools, many of our families and staff members may still be without power or dealing with damage and other challenges caused by the storm. Please know that we understand the tremendous strain this has placed on our community.

Our students have already experienced an unexpected and difficult start to the school year. When we are able to welcome them through our doors, we want their first day of school to feel positive, safe, welcoming, and exciting—not stressful or uncertain. We want our families and staff to have the opportunity to focus on recovery while we do everything possible to prepare our schools.

Before reopening, we must be confident that all aspects of our operations are ready, including our facilities, transportation, meals, utilities, building systems, and the overall learning environment.

We remain deeply grateful to our maintenance, custodial, and janitorial teams, first responders, linemen, utility workers, community partners, staff members, volunteers, and everyone who has worked tirelessly throughout this emergency. Your commitment to Lake Ridge and our surrounding community has been extraordinary.

We understand that these continued closures create challenges for our families, and we sincerely appreciate the patience, grace, and understanding you have shown throughout this unprecedented situation. We will continue assessing our buildings and will provide our families and staff with additional information regarding our return to school as soon as it becomes available.

Please continue to take care of yourselves, your families, and one another. Recovery takes time, but we will continue moving forward as one community.

Our community needs us! ❤️ Organizations from across the country are stepping up and sending water, TIDE, food boxes, clothing and other essential supplies to help our families impacted by the storm.

Now WE need to step up! 💪

We need 10–15 volunteers throughout the day to help unload, organize, set up and distribute these donations.

Lake Ridge Is Here for Our Community

As our community continues to recover from the devastating storm, Lake Ridge Schools remains committed to supporting our families, neighbors, and community members during this difficult time.

On Monday, August 24 and Tuesday, August 25, our Lake Ridge Schools Conference Center will once again be open to the public as a Cooling & Charging Station, with breakfast and lunch available.

Breakfast: 9:00–11:30 a.m.
Lunch: 12:00–2:30 p.m.

Meals will be packaged to go, or you are welcome to stay, cool off, charge your devices, enjoy some water or coffee, and have your meal with us.
