The Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen has approved a revised Outline Plan for Goodwin Farms Planned Unit Development, making an important step in guiding future growth along the City's southeast corridor.

Located on approximately 99 acres along Wi******er Road, east of Crestwyn Drive, the updated plan:
• Reduces the development to 228 single-family residential lots
• Consolidates construction from nine phases to seven
• Improves internal street connectivity and traffic flow

Phase one is underway, with future phases moving through the required planning, engineering and development steps under the newly approved seven-phase plan.

🚧Traffic Update🚧

The Poplar Avenue Culvert Replacement Project is nearing completion! Beginning tomorrow, August 13, crews will complete final traffic striping, sidewalk replacement, inlet repairs and sodding near Featherleigh Lane.

What to expect:
✅ All standard travel lanes on Poplar Avenue will be open.
🚧 Only shoulder closures are anticipated while crews finish the remaining work.

Please continue to use caution when traveling through the area and watch for workers and equipment.

Thank you for your patience throughout this project as we complete these final infrastructure improvements.

Great news! The first shipment of our new city-branded 96-gallon recycling carts has arrived and deliveries start this afternoon!

This is the first of three scheduled shipments. While this initial batch won't cover every open request, crews are moving as fast as they can to get these out to you. We deeply appreciate your patience as we work through the list!

If you requested an upgrade from a 64-gallon to a 96-gallon recycling cart: Please leave your current 64-gallon cart in a spot that is visible from the street and easily accessible for crews on non-collection days so we can make the swap seamlessly.

Riverdale Park is officially open following a series of improvements designed to make the park safer, more accessible and more enjoyable for the community.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held yesterday afternoon to celebrate the park’s reopening, which includes more than 80 new parking spaces, ADA-accessible pathways connecting Neshoba Road to Riverdale Elementary, improved pedestrian trails and critical drainage and stormwater improvements.

The ceremony also included the dedication of Will Drennan Field, honoring the life and legacy of a local hero.

Drennan, a Germantown Football League coach, tragically lost his life on August 9, 2022, while attempting to rescue a child who had fallen into a stormwater drainage ditch during severe weather following practice. His selfless actions reflected his deep commitment to protecting others and the community he served.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the field designation earlier this year following a unanimous recommendation from the Parks and Recreation Commission. The field will serve as a lasting tribute to Will and the courage and selflessness he demonstrated.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring these improvements to Riverdale Park and to the Drennan family for allowing the community to honor Will’s memory.

See What Your Support Can Grow 🌱

Through the Friends of the Foundation program, Germantown residents can support the Germantown Education Foundation with a monthly donation through their City water bill. Those contributions help fund programs and projects that make a difference in local classrooms.

One example is the Forest Hill Garden, which was launched with a $10,000 GEF grant awarded to Mr. House at Forest Hill Elementary School. Over the years, the Forest Hill Farmers have helped the garden grow and flourish, cultivating fresh produce and beautiful flowers.

During the summer, the Forest Hill Farmers take their harvest to the Germantown Farmers Market, giving the community an opportunity to enjoy the fruits (and vegetables) of their labor.

A monthly contribution through your water bill is a simple way to help GEF continue supporting innovative projects like this one.

The Running of the Weenies returns Saturday, September 12, and the Germantown Animal Shelter is looking for Dachshunds ready to race!

Join the fun from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Germantown Charity Horse Show Arena and cheer on these pint-sized pups as they sprint to the finish line.

Registration is open through Thursday, September 3, at 3:30 p.m. Register in person at the Germantown Animal Shelter.

Out-of-town guests are discovering what we already know: Germantown is an exceptional place to be.

July Room Occupancy Tax collections reached $180,873, a 27.1% increase over last July and $6,883 ahead of our budget target to open Fiscal Year 2027.

Targeted hotel additions over the last few years are helping us meet growing regional demand, particularly within our expanding medical district. These accommodations serve healthcare professionals, visiting specialists and families supporting loved ones at facilities like Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital.

When these guests stay here, they also dine at local restaurants, shop at retail spots like Saddle Creek and attend events across the city. Those visitor-generated tax dollars allow us to diversify our funding base, helping offset municipal operational costs for public safety, infrastructure upgrades and quality-of-life amenities without placing the full financial responsibility solely on local residents.
