We’re excited to kick off the 2026–2027 Alisha Dumas- State Farm Agent Athlete of the Month program with our first group of outstanding nominees!

Each month, this program gives us the opportunity to recognize GMSD student-athletes not only for their athletic accomplishments, but also for their leadership, sportsmanship, character, academics, and commitment to their school community.

Programs like this are also a great reminder of how important strong community partnerships are to our schools. We are incredibly thankful for Alisha Dumas State Farm and her continued support of GMSD students. Community partners like Alisha help us create meaningful opportunities to recognize and celebrate the hard work of our students.

Industry connections are helping Houston High students see where the classroom can take them.

More than 30 business, industry and community partners joined HHS teachers for conversations about the skills, opportunities and experiences that can prepare students for life beyond high school. From health science and engineering to media, manufacturing and more, these partnerships are creating real-world connections and opening doors for students.

Dogwood is making the first day of kindergarten feel a little more like home. ❤️

Through Little Fins, Big Beginnings Breakfast, new families had a chance to connect, share breakfast and begin building their Dogwood community while their newest Dolphins started their first day. It’s one small moment with a big purpose: helping every student and family feel known, welcomed and like they belong.

Students learning skills that can save lives! 🖤

A group of GMSD students spent part of their Saturday becoming certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid.

These are more than just certifications—they are practical, life-saving skills that give students the knowledge and confidence to respond when someone is experiencing a medical emergency. In situations involving sudden cardiac arrest, choking, serious injury, or other emergencies, having someone nearby who knows what to do can make an incredible difference.

We’re proud of these students for choosing to spend part of their Saturday learning how to help others and becoming better prepared to step up when it matters most.
