is hiring a Community Service Officer. This is an integral role in the department with a variety of responsibilities. A CSO responds to animal calls, parking issues, non-emergency calls not requiring an officer, and bailiff duties just to name a few of the essential functions. Potato Bowl 2026 is here. There are plenty of activities to participate in. Don’t forget to stop by the french fry feed on Thursday evening at University Park. Can we beat the record? Also, Saturday is the KEM Shriner’s Potato Bowl Parade downtown. It will start in Grand Forks and end in East Grand Forks. From there, go cheer on the UND Hawks football team. Today and tomorrow we are supposed to have nice weather in the 80s. It would be a good weekend to get out and enjoy the weather. There is a lot of do this weekend to include watching adorable corgis at Lincoln Park, Library Con at Grand Forks Public Library, Weird Al at the Alerus Center, races at River Cities Speedway, and more. On 08/27/26 at approximately 1615 hours officers of the Grand Forks Police Department were dispatched to the area of South Columbia Road and Knight Drive for a crash involving a pick-up truck and a motorcycle.
Officers arrived on scene to find that a 2018 Ford F-150 and a 2009 Yamaha motorcycle had collided at the intersection. The rider of the 2009 Yamaha motorcycle sustained incapacitating injuries. Officers on scene applied life saving interventions, and the motorcyclist was transported to Altru for medical treatment. At this time his condition is unknown. The motorcyclist was identified as Andrew Pfeiffer, 26 years old, of Grand Forks.
The driver of the 2018 Ford F-150 was identified Kyle Oberlin, 45 years old. As of result of this crash no injuries were sustained by Kyle Oberlin.
The cause of the crash is unknown and is still being actively investigated. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact the Grand Forks Police Department.
The Grand Forks Police Department would like to thank the Grand Forks Fire Department for their assistance on scene as well as Altru Paramedics. UAS and CART were called in to assist in the investigation.

In an effort to keep our roadways safe, the Grand Forks Police Department will participate in Distracted Driving Awareness campaign September 1st through September 30th.
The City of Grand Forks prohibits the use of a wireless communications device to compose, read or send an electronic message while operating a motor vehicle on any street or highway, and a violation carries with it a $200 fine.
This campaign is funded through grants awarded by the North Dakota Department of Transportation, and allows additional officers to be assigned to specifically target distracted driving violations. The Grand Forks Police Department participates in enforcement campaigns such as these in order to accomplish one very simple goal: to make our roadways safer.

Additionally, the Grand Forks Police Department wants to remind the public of the following safe driving tips:
5. Remember to always be looking out for small children, and slow down around parks, schools and residential areas.
4. Drive defensively, and expect the unexpected.
3. Use appropriate occupant and child restraints.

On 08/25/26, at approximately 10:16 pm, officers with the Grand Forks Police Department responded to 1706 Continental Dr for the report of three gunshots in the area. When they arrived they made contact with the male who admitted to firing the gun. The gun was seized, and the involved parties were interviewed.
The male disclosed that there had been a physical altercation on scene involving several other people, and that he had discharged his handgun into the air in an attempt to break up the fight. The firearm was not pointed at anyone, was not used the directly threaten anyone, and it was only fired into the air. Other witnesses on scene corroborated this, so at this time no arrest was made on scene.
This investigation is still ongoing to determine which, if any, charges are appropriate due to circumstances at the time of the call. As it is still ongoing the suspects identity won’t be disclosed at this time.
At this time there have been no reported injuries in relation to this part of the call, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
We would like to clarify- even though no one was immediately arrested/brought to jail, the file was sent to prosecutors for appropriate charges to be brought against those involved.
