Even in the 1700s, libraries were places where people gathered to share ideas, debate issues, and tell stories. As Benjamin Franklin recognized, libraries helped everyday Americans become more informed, sparking conversations that shaped communities and, ultimately, a nation.

📜 Rockets. History. Free stuff. Library books.

Our America 250 celebration is packed with ways to learn, explore, and have fun. Pick up a pocket Declaration of Independence, check out themed books and movies, attend a program, or simply satisfy your curiosity.

Because democracy starts with questions—and libraries are full of answers.

Thank you to the ND250 Commission for helping bring these exhibits and resources to our community as we celebrate 250 years of American history. 🇺🇸

This week, our community will welcome home a local hero.

Eighty years after his death, a POW/MIA service member is being returned to his family. As part of the events honoring his life and legacy, his family asked to include a GFP_ "Free to Read" banner—a tribute to his love of reading and a reminder of the importance of sharing that love with future generations.

We are honored to play a small part in helping tell his story. May his memory inspire curiosity, learning, and a lifelong love of reading.

Sixteen years ago, Angie Laxdal visited the library as a young marketing professional, interviewing patrons and gathering stories for a project. Today, she's Grand Forks Public Library's Marketing Director, helping tell the library's story every day.

Talk about a full-circle moment. 💫

Check out Episode 2 of The Buzz as Angie shares her journey, what inspires her work, and why connecting people to ideas—and each other—is at the heart of everything we do: https://gfpthebuzz.substack.com/p/episode-2-meet-angie-laxdal

History is having a moment at the library! As America approaches its 250th birthday, visitors can explore a special poster display that highlights the people, events, and ideas that helped shape our nation—along with connections to local history right here in North Dakota.

While you're here, pick up free handheld copies of the Declaration of Independence and U.S. flag etiquette booklets (while supplies last). Whether you love history, enjoy learning something new, or are curious about the stories and symbols that have shaped the United States, these resources are a great place to start.

The library also offers a flag retirement drop box, providing a respectful way to retire worn or damaged American flags.

Thank you to the ND250 Commission for helping bring these exhibits and resources to our community as we celebrate 250 years of American history.
