Some pieces of our library carry a story all their own.
This metal garden artwork was created by local farmer Clif Haugen and was once part of a garden shaped by the vision and care of the late Carolyn Anderson, a passionate gardener who served as President of the Grand Forks Horticulture Society for many years. The garden has since been reimagined, but this special piece now has a place in its next chapter.
After years of weathering the seasons, the artwork had developed a lovely patina of its own. We decided to give it a little fresh color—not to erase its history, but to celebrate it in a way that feels right at home in our colorful, joyful library.
The butterflies are bright again, the garden is growing, and this special piece continues to connect us with the people whose creativity, care, and love helped shape our library grounds.
A little history, a little color, and a reminder that the things we create together can keep bringing joy for generations. 🦋
