History Day at Caprock Academy was everything we hoped for! 🏛️ Today our students and staff stepped into the time periods they are studying, and the results were spectacular. We saw pharaohs and Egyptian royalty, Roman senators with laurel crowns, knights and kings, and colonial patriots. Students designed stained glass art, built a Hawaii display, and even took part in a knighting ceremony. One of our freshmen came dressed as the Code of Hammurabi, a connection to The Epic of Gilgamesh.
Our seniors had a full day of learning beyond the classroom. They visited the justice center for a field trip connected to their American Government studies, then joined our first graders for a lesson on ancient Egypt, where the seniors became mummies! It was a joy to see our youngest and oldest students learning side by side, with our teachers and staff joining in with costumes of their own.
When students are known by their teachers, challenged to dig deeply into the past, and prepared to carry that learning with them, history becomes something they live, not just something they read. Thank you to our families for the creativity and effort behind every costume, and to our teachers for making this tradition so memorable in our 20th anniversary year. 📜
