Not every fire alarm signal means the same thing.

Understanding the difference between Supervisory, Trouble and Alarm signals can help facility teams respond appropriately and keep fire protection systems operating as intended.

🔹 Supervisory: Indicates a condition within the fire protection system that needs attention, such as a valve change or low air pressure.
🔹 Trouble: Signals a system problem, such as a power loss, wiring issue or low backup battery.
🔹 Alarm: Indicates a potential fire event triggered by devices such as smoke detectors, heat detectors, pull stations or water flow switches.

Knowing what each signal means — and addressing it promptly — is an important part of maintaining a reliable life safety system.
