The start of a new year tends to bring a lot of noise.
What tends to matter more - especially over time - are the practical things: skills that are useful, work that’s needed, and foundations that support long-term stability.

As 2026 gets underway, those fundamentals are still worth paying attention to.

This time of year naturally brings new toys...and reflection. If 2025 sparked questions about work, growth, or direction, learning a new skill - especially a technical or hands-on one - can open doors people don’t always realize are available.

No decisions today. Just possibilities worth exploring.

Last week, we looked at disposable income levels for Groesbeck residents.Today’s snapshot shows who else contributes to local spending - including our extended workforce and out-of-market visitors.Across all three groups, the strongest income band is $50k–$99k, but here’s the interesting part:our extended workforce leans slightly higher-income, with a notable share earning above $100k. Those workers spend money here too, adding depth to our market beyond what resident income alone would suggest. For many business types, this mix of middle- and upper-middle-income consumers represents a potential target market - one reason service, personal care, and essential-needs businesses tend to perform steadily in Groesbeck.A simple follow-up look at the broader spending footprint around our community.

Trade skills are in high demand across the country - and that includes right here in our region.Construction, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and other skilled trades all have more openings than workers.People are building strong careers and making competitive income in these fields without needing a four-year degree. As with experienced tradesmen aging out, the demand is only growing.Groesbeck EDC is preparing to introduce a modern, hands-on training solution in 2026 to help more people explore these paths safely and accessibly. It will be available to local residents, employees and students looking for a more hands-on path to success. If you want to stay in the loop as we get closer to launch, comment "TRADE SKILLS" or send us a message.

Groesbeck’s income distribution gives us a clear picture of the community’s spending power:

36.3% middle-income households

17.5% upper-middle income households

This broad middle-income base is why essential, service-driven, and personal-care businesses perform well here. It also provides a meaningful signal often used in site selection: steady mid-income markets like ours tend to support dependable, year-round demand for practical services, wellness, and hybrid retail-service concepts.

When you look at the numbers, Groesbeck’s workforce isn’t quite what many people picture. It’s a fairly even mix, but with an unexpected lean - about 40% white collar, 31% blue collar, and 28% service. Our largest industries span from health care and public administration to construction, manufacturing, and retail.

The commute patterns add another layer. Because the city limits fit inside such a small radius, a less-than-5-minute commute almost always means someone lives in town. The 5–9-minute commutes tend to be people just outside the limits, still very close.

So even though many of the people who work here don’t technically live “in town,” they’re only a few minutes away. Groesbeck ends up functioning as a small employment center for the immediate area, which quietly suggests a few possibilities - things like more in-town housing and supports that make everyday life easier for local families and workers.

Sometimes the data shows things we kind of knew already - just with a little more clarity.

Groesbeck has a clear daily rhythm.
Residents are most present in the evenings, while non-resident workers and service travelers dominate the midday hours.

At noon, visitors peak.
After 8pm, residents take the lead.

It’s a simple pattern with big implications:
non-residents power our daytime economy,
and residents shape everything else.

Groesbeck’s downtown core centers around Navasota Street and Highway 14, positioned just north of the junction with Highway 164. Combined traffic along these corridors totals roughly 28,000 vehicles per day through the Groesbeck area.

For a community of fewer than 4,000 residents, that’s a notably high flow compared with many Texas downtowns under 10,000 population, where primary corridors often see much lower counts.

This steady movement of regional commuters and local residents reinforces Groesbeck’s position as an accessible stop along key state routes connecting Mexia, Fairfield, and Waco.

BY THE NUMBERS - Over the past six months, 156,500 out-of-market visitors came to Groesbeck - an 8.3% increase year-over-year -from almost 2,400 ZIP codes.

Most come from within 25 miles, but steady flows arrive from both the I-35 and I-45 corridors, placing Groesbeck inside the movement triangle that links Waco, Bryan-College Station, and Corsicana.

It’s a broader reach than size alone suggests and a pattern of regional movement that connects our small towns to the larger Central-Texas story.
