Per the March 31st, 2026 Commission meeting, a closed season for speckled trout harvest will be in effect from April 1st, 2026 through June 30th, 2026. This action was taken in response to multiple years of cold-stun related mortality and is intended to protect the remaining spawning stock through the bulk of the 2026 spawning season.

Virginia Marine Police officers are representing the Commonwealth at the Virginia State Fair this week, meeting thousands of visitors and sharing what it takes to protect our waterways.

From fairgoers climbing aboard the patrol jet ski for photos to families learning about boating safety and marine law enforcement, our officers are proud to serve both on the water and in the community.

Visit the VMRC exhibit in the Natural Resources area through Sunday to meet the team and learn more about our mission.

☀️ Sunshine, smiles, and some serious fish stories 🎣

The Virginia Marine Police and Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament hit the water this week with the Norfolk Anglers Club for the Sunshine Program Children’s Fishing Day - a Chesapeake Bay tradition 27 years strong!

From first casts 🪝 to surprise catches 🐟, kids got hands-on with fishing, learned about the Bay’s ecosystem 🌊, and spent the day side-by-side with the officers who help protect it.

The smiles? Unforgettable 😄
The mentoring moments? Reel good 🛥️
