Medal of Honor Monday
Today we honor Army Pfc. Charles N. DeGlopper, whose extraordinary courage during the Battle of Normandy saved the lives of his fellow soldiers.Why he was recognized:
• On June 9, 1944, near La Fière, France, his platoon was pinned down by heavy enemy fire.
• He deliberately exposed himself to draw fire away from his fellow soldiers.
• He continued firing despite multiple wounds, allowing his platoon to withdraw safely.Legacy:
• The only member of the 82nd Airborne Division to receive the Medal of Honor for actions in Normandy.
Remembered for unmatched courage, selflessness, and devotion to his brothers‑in‑arms.
