This past week, HFD personnel along with members of the Pascoag Fire Department and Glocester fire companies assisted East Burrillville Fire Department with a controlled burn of the fields at Addieville East Pheasant Farm. HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING! As we being the spring clean up season, we'd like to remind everyone that per our town ordinance, all non-cooking fires that are exposed to open air and not funneled through a chimney or stack require a permit to maintain. Harrisville residents can obtain a permit for FREE and OVER THE PHONE by calling the Harrisville Fire Department at 568-5110. Thank you and stay safe!

Yard Debris Burning Safety
Today is the start of Spring. After a long, hard winter many of us want to get outside and do some much needed yard cleanup. Please remember to abide by your local ordinances if you decide to burn your yard debris: Is there a fire restriction? Is a burn permit required? Pay special attention to the weather: Is it dry out today? Is it too windy? Be vigilant when burning yard debris: Is my fire getting too big to control? Are embers flying into nearby vegetation that I don't want to burn? Extinguish a fire safely. Make sure to drown with water, stir with a shovel, and feel for any remaining hotspots. If it's too hot to touch, it's too hot to leave. Thanks, and always remember it is your responsibility for managing a yard debris burn from the start to extinguishment.
