The Hartly Volunteer Fire Company proudly provides Fire, Rescue and EMS services to a fire district of approximately 55 square miles located in the North West area of Kent County Delaware. We have been doing so for 95 years and will continue to do so for the many more years to come. Th

e Hartly Volunteer Fire Company currently houses 2 Engines, 1 Tanker, 1 Heavy Rescue, 1 Brush Truck, 1 Special Operations Unit, 2 BLS Units, 1 Command Vehicle, 1 Gator, 1 Van and a 1956 Antique Engine. We respond to approximately 250 Fire Incidents and 800 EMS Incidents both in our district and surrounding areas. Our mutual aid companies consist of the Clayton Fire Company (Station 45), Cheswold Volunteer Fire Company (Station 43), Dover Fire Department (Station 46), Camden-Wyoming Fire Company (Station 41), Marydel Volunteer Fire Company (Station 56) and Queens Annes County MD.

On Sunday morning, May 24th, Deputy Chief McAllister and the Hartly Ladies Auxiliary hosted our monthly Responder Breakfast. Each month, the Deputy Chief invites the members who responded to a minimum number of calls the previous month to a breakfast prepared by our Ladies Auxiliary. During the breakfast, the Deputy Chief recognizes the Top Fire Responder and the Top Driver for the previous month. For the month of April, Garrien Morris responded to the most calls, with Joe Berry responding to the second most calls. Steve Szelestei, III was our Top driver for the month of April. Deputy McAllister would like to thank all members who made a response to the station during the month of April for the 35 alarms we were dispatched.

At 1130 this morning, while Squad 51 was sh Hartly Elementary for Science Day, Kent Center dispatched Station 51 to assist Station 43(Cheswold) for a working structure fire. Squad51 under direction of Crew Leader Justin Mabrey and Tanker 51 under direction of FF Luke Smith, made the response. Upon arrival, Squad 51 filled the role of First Due Engine, which means their primary role is fire suppression. After approximately 2.5 hours on scene, units cleared the scene and returned to the station.

Delaware Burn Ban Reminder
As a reminder, the statewide burn ban will go into effect beginning May 1, 2026.
This annual restriction, issued by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, is in place to help protect air quality and reduce the risk of outdoor fires during the warmer months.
Residents are reminded that most open burning is prohibited during this period, with limited exceptions such as cooking fires and small recreational fires.
