The Havre Chamber of Commerce and partners are asking the community and local organizations to participate in this year's Festival Days Community Cleanup. There will be three available garbage tubs to dispose of garbage at the Keystone Park parking lot (near Nalivkas Pizza), Kris Bakke Memorial Park parking lot (5th Avenue and 12th Street), and Highland Park Cenex Zip Trip parking lot (11th Street West and Washington Avenue). Please ensure garbage is bagged or contained before placing in the garbage tubs to make sure your hard work does not go to waste!

In our efforts in seeking future water project funding, we came across historic photos from a century ago that help tell the 'story' of the need for these infrastructure projects and we want to share these unique images with the community!

Images from 1917 of the 9th Street feeder main show cast-iron pipe still in the ground and in use today. Images from 1918 of the Pioneer Coulee well system, located on the MSUN campus near the Applied Technology Center, connected to cast-iron water mains on Montana and First Avenue, are still in use today. Images from 1918 of Montana Avenue or 6th Street cast-iron or steel water mains are still in use and have been repaired extensively over the last few decades. Images from 1922 of the Third Street well system show the construction of the well house after structural failure - today, the First Lutheran Church stands in its place.

You can show your support for much-needed drinking water project funding in the City of Havre’s application to the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA RD) Water & Environmental Program by submitting your letter of support by Friday, August 14th. The essential bits of the letter are who you are, your relationship to the City of Havre (resident, business owner, member of an organization, or anything of that nature), and your endorsement for our proposed infrastructure projects! You can drop off your letter at Havre City Hall, email to [email protected], or mail it to City of Havre, PO Box 231, Havre, MT 59501.

What are the main parts of the proposed project? FIRST - Improve treatment processes and equipment at the City of Havre Water Treatment Plant, originally built in the 1950s and expanded in 2003, but still using equipment and facilities that are coming to the end of their useful life. SECOND - Replace aging drinking water distribution system infrastructure, primarily cast-iron pipes between 7th – 14th Avenues and 1st – 8th Streets that have exceeded the pipes' expected life, to improve public health protections, fire suppression capabilities, and to encourage economic development. THIRD - Improve source water protections and systems at the Milk River for the City of Havre.
