Our community is hurting, and no one should have to carry that pain alone. 💙 The public is invited to an important community healing event on Monday, May 18 at 7:00 PM in the SUB Ballroom at MSU-Northern.

This gathering comes in response to the recent su***de losses affecting our Northern and Havre communities. Many are carrying grief they don’t know how to talk about, feel afraid to bring up, or wonder if anyone truly sees. This evening is not a crisis meeting — it is a space for healing, connection, learning, and hope.

The evening will include:
• A moment to acknowledge what we’ve lost and give ourselves permission to grieve openly
• An educational discussion on the unique challenges of su***de grief, including survivor guilt, the contagion effect in small communities, and ways to support those most at risk
• Small group conversations led by trained facilitators focused on what we can do for our youth, for one another, and to honor those we’ve lost

Guests will leave with practical next steps, and resources will be available throughout the evening. Come as you are. You are not alone. 💙

Check out the traffic education course schedule for more information. Residence Hall rooms are available in Miles City for the face-to-face course. MSU-Northern Chancellor to Retire after Serving 50 years in Education

MSU-Northern Chancellor Gregory D. Kegel announced he will retire August 1, 2026, after more than 44 years of service to the university and a 50-year career in education, including over a decade as Chancellor.

A 1976 graduate, Kegel returned to Northern in 1982 as an instructor and rose through the ranks to lead the university beginning in 2014. During his tenure, he prioritized student recruitment, retention, and hands-on learning while helping guide a shared vision for the campus.
Under his leadership, MSU-Northern expanded key facilities including the Applied Technology Center, Advanced Fuels Center, and Diesel Technology Center, strengthened academic and athletic programs, and continued major campus improvements.

Kegel expressed deep gratitude for the Northern community and confidence in the university’s future as it continues to build on a strong foundation of opportunity and student success.
