The Department of Commerce is dedicated to supporting a thriving and healthy Hoopa community. Our primary goal in overseeing food safety is to protect the wellbeing of our families and neighbors while fostering a vibrant local economy. We recognize that adopting new safety standards from existing tribal law is a journey, and we are committed to walking that path alongside our local vendors. To assist with this transition, we provide a variety of free resources, including wash stations, tables, ice, and professional training sessions. We view the implementation of Tribal Code 56.402, which has been in place since 2003, not as a set of restrictions, but as a collaborative framework to ensure the highest standards for our community’s food. Leadership has entrusted our department to facilitate this code, and we invite you to review it as we work together to follow it faithfully.
