We are out at Strong Kids Safe Kids today. Stop by and say hello, pick up fire prevention information, fire helmets and stickers for Kids and take a picture in the fire truck. The event goes until 2 pm today and the Chemung County Fairgrounds.

Last Tuesdays drill members were able to practice many skills in one scenario.

The Scenario:A farmer was cutting and hauling logs with his tractor when a tree came down impaling the farmer.
Members had to locate, treat and remove the farmer from the woods.

Skills covered:
Search and Rescue with "What Three Words"
Chain saw skills
UTV driving skills
Rural trauma management
Patient removal from the woods.

This drill was designed by several officers, an members.

Before the drill, FF/EMT Heidi Fudge-Wheeler demonstrated the importance of chain saw chaps. She first cut standard bunker pants. Then she cut chaps. (Both bunkerpants and chaps were older out of service ppe).
Notice the stopping power of chaps on a gas powered saw.

2 fires in a week plus our normal call load and County classes for some members. This means very busy volunteers and staff.

Both fires had minimal to moderate damage but the structures are standing needing some repair and cleaning.

A couple of reminders. Please don't put or store combustible items on your stove top. Also, keep workspaces where open flames may be used clear of combustible materials.
Lastly, make sure smoke detectors are working and you have a fire extinguisher.

If you have any questions about fire safety you are more than welcome to call or stop by our station. Our members and staff are here to help. Our front door is unlocked 7am to 6pm daily. After hours ring the doorbell and someone will be out to help you.

We want to thank the Erin Volunteer Fire Department and Elmira Heights Fire Department for helping us out last night at the Demo Derby.

Without our mutual aid partners all week we would be stretched extremely thin.

Also, want to thank all the members and staff that helped out all week long. Our dedicated volunteers covered the Fire and EMS services at the fair from 1pm to 10 pm every day. While other members were doing station standbys or were available to help cover our 67 square mile district.

Plus, the countless hours in planning mutual aid along with planning and preparing food that will feed our members and mutual aid partners all week long.

It is truly appreciated by the Chiefs and Board of Directors.
Thank you to all that helped in any way possible.

Now to relax for a bit before we start planning for 2027.

Come watch Town & Country Fire Department and Elmira Heights Fire Department, in partnership with Chemung County Fire and Emergency Management, conduct a live vehicle extrication drill using the same powerful tools firefighters rely on during serious crashes! 🚒🧑‍🚒
