This week Horseheads Fire/Rescue placed an upgraded Zoll 3 AED on Rescue 1081 along with a public access AED inside the fire station. These upgrades were made possible from donations received by our beloved member Rick Kimball who passed this year.

While only 50% of sudden cardiac arrest victims will initially need a shock, nearly all will require CPR to increase the flow of oxygenated blood to the heart and brain. ZOLL AED 3 device with Real CPR Help lets rescuers know if they are doing compressions at the most effective rate and depth. The AED’s integrated real-time feedback eliminates guesswork; it provides rescuers with visual and audio prompts to “Push Harder” or will let them know when they are doing “Good Compressions,” keeping rescuers on track to administer high-quality CPR. - Zoll

Rick was a true leader in technology to help first responders provide the best chances of survival for a patient in cardiac arrest. Currently all HFD and Horseheads PD vehicles have Zoll AED’s and pads that are interchangeable with Erway Ambulance ALS monitors. Saving time for more effective cpr and early defibrillation. Rick started this program, and our membership with community donations has continued this vital tool to help our patients.

Thank you Rick ❤️
