Over the summer, due to the lengthy construction along Corning Road and the Ample Center Bridge over the railroad tracks, both HFD and Elmira Heights Fire Department took a proactive approach to the increased traffic congestion and potential access delays.
Both departments entered into an automatic dispatch procedure through Chemung Co E911 for incidents occurring within the construction area, ensuring the closest available resources could be moving immediately when seconds matter.
This evening, both departments were dispatched for a vehicle fire on Philo Road West, just off Corning Road. Upon arrival, a working fire was declared, and HFD and EHFD crews immediately went to work together, quickly extinguishing the fire.
It doesn’t matter what it says on the side of the truck — when the alarm sounds, we’re all there for the same reason. Get the job done.
We’re proud to work alongside some of the best mutual-aid companies around. Tonight was another great example of departments working together, overcoming access challenges, and getting the incident mitigated quickly. 🚒
