Yesterday was our 6th Annual Kicking the Stigma Kickball Tournament, and Hot Springs brought the HEAT!
Fourteen treatment centers and recovery organizations showed up ready to go head-to-head with police and EMS for the coveted championship title.
There was running. There was sliding. There was questionable athletic ability. There may have even been a few arguments over whether someone was actually out. 👀😂
But most importantly, there was a whole lot of laughing, fellowship, teamwork, and probably more trash talk than necessary.
10-52 Drug Court came to PLAY and walked away with the championship title! Congratulations, y’all! Clearly, somebody has been practicing instead of attending meetings. While they may not have taken home the championship, Shalom absolutely took the crown for Most Spirited Team! They brought the energy, the enthusiasm, and enough team spirit to make sure nobody forgot they were there!
A huge shoutout to the folks who helped keep this whole circus… umm, community event… running:
LifeNet — not only brought a team but also brought the hydration tent. Because apparentently running bases in Arkansas in August requires medical supervision.
Harbor House & Sigma Supply — donated cookies because every serious athletic competition requires carbohydrates.
Sam’s Club & Coca-Cola made sure nobody had to choose between playing hard and staying hydrated! Thank you for keeping the Kicking the Stigma crew refreshed all day long!
Covenant Recovery — brought the chili for chili dogs and made sure we were properly fueled for our highly competitive athletic endeavors.
To the treatment centers and recovery organizations, police officers, EMS crews, HSPD volunteers, supporters, and spectators who came out: THANK YOU!
Six years ago, this started with an idea to get people from law enforcement and recovery on the same field. Six years later, we're still proving that sometimes the best way to break down barriers is to put a kickball in the middle of the field and tell everybody to settle it at home plate.
Yesterday wasn't really about who won, it was about relationships. It was about fellowship. It was about laughing with people instead of judging them. It was about showing our community that recovery and law enforcement don't have to stand on opposite sides.
We can stand on the SAME FIELD.
And apparently, we can talk a little trash while we're doing it. 😎
Six years down and the stigma in Spa City still getting kicked!
