The Garland County Sheriff’s Office would like to make the public aware of a scam that has recently been reported in Garland County and surrounding jurisdictions.

In these incidents, unknown individuals are using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to simulate the voice of a victim’s family member or loved one. The caller claims to be an EMT and has some information on the family member. They then change their story and state they are part of a cartel; the family member is in danger and demands money while threatening harm if instructions are not followed.

In reported cases, the intended victims were able to contact their family members directly and confirm they were safe.

If you receive a call of this nature:

• Remain calm
• Do not give out any personal information
• Contact law enforcement and your loved one immediately

If you believe a loved one may truly be in danger or you receive one of these calls, contact the 911 or the Garland County Sheriff’s Office at 501-622-3660 immediately.
