The United Houma Nation’s offices will be CLOSED on Friday, September 25th in celebration of Native American Day. Our offices will re-open during normal business hours on Monday, September 28th. Observed in several U.S. states, Native American Day honors the traditions, cultures and contributions of Native Americans and affirms the importance of remembering and honoring Indigenous voices past, present, and future. ⚪️🔴🟡⚫️

Today, the UHN Election Board certified the previously reported results from the September 5, 2026 Principal Chief Run-Off Election. The certification followed an election challenge filed by candidate Adam Crappel.

The certified results identify incumbent Lora Ann Chaisson as the winner of the run-off election. The attached results constitute the UHN Election Board’s official certification as of September 23, 2026. The Board will coordinate with Principal Chief Chaisson regarding her installation and oath of office for a second term as Principal Chief in accordance with the election rules.

Shoutout to talented UHN citizen Isaiah Billiot who was invited to sing the National Anthem at the upcoming Rougarou Fest in Houma! Isaiah is a junior at South Terrebonne High School and is a resident of Grand Bois. In addition to performing the National Anthem, Isaiah will represent South Terrebonne's Honors Choir at the 2026 Louisiana ACDA Fall Vocal Conference in New Orleans next month. He has also been selected to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York next February. Congratulations Isaiah! 👏👏👏

URGENT: Tribal Nations are encouraged to review proposed changes to the 2030 Census and make their voices heard.
The U.S. Census Bureau has proposed regulations that would fundamentally change how the census counts people across the United States. Of particular concern, the proposed rule would remove race and ethnicity questions, eliminating critical data about American Indian and Alaska Native populations.

Census data help determine political representation, inform federal funding decisions, and guide planning for housing, community development, maternal health, transportation, and other essential programs and services. These proposed changes could have significant consequences for Tribal Nations and Native communities.

The Census Bureau will hold a virtual Tribal consultation for Tribal leaders and officially designated representatives:

The public comment deadline is October 13. Tribal Nations and Tribal-serving organizations have until November 2 to submit comments.
