It’s always good to run into a familiar face, especially hundreds of miles from home! While out on TIFMAS deployment, our crew crossed paths with one of our own, part-time Little York Captain Joe Stan, who is also out answering the call.

A huge shoutout and thank you to Crockett County Fire & EMS for opening their station to our crew and giving them a place to clean up the truck, service the saws, and get everything ready for the next assignment.

That’s what the Texas fire service is all about, departments and firefighters taking care of one another wherever the assignment takes us.

What started as a call to help a few puppies in our community quickly became a story shared across the country!

Over the weekend, our puppy rescue story was featured by news stations in Bangor, Maine; Greensboro, North Carolina; Honolulu, Hawaii; Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau, Alaska; Palm Springs and San Diego, California; and Seattle and Spokane, Washington!

And then it went NATIONAL!

Our story was featured on Good Morning America, reaching an audience of approximately 2,595,000 viewers! 🤯

We do want to clear up one small detail as the story has traveled across the country. Our crews called Harris County Pets to the scene to assist with the rescue. We did not name the puppies or bring them back to the fire station. Our partners at Harris County Pets took over their care, gave them their names, and are handling their adoption.

The best part? These little pups now have a chance to find their forever homes!

From Little York to television screens across America, we’re grateful this story has helped shine a light on teamwork, community, and the incredible work of our partners at Harris County Pets.

Not bad for a couple of little puppies who just needed some help. 🐾

TIFMAS DEPLOYMENT UPDATE

For one month now, Little York firefighters have been deployed across Texas as part of the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS), supporting communities and fire departments battling large wildfires across the state.

This weekend marked our third crew swap, continuing our commitment to keeping personnel fresh while maintaining our presence in the field.

Our crews’ assignment has continued to evolve with the needs across Texas. After operating at the Ross Fire, they were reassigned to the Woodward Fire. Now, they are once again on the move and en route to the Benson Fire for their next assignment.

Different fires. Different communities. Same mission.

For the past month, Little York firefighters have represented our department and our community wherever they have been needed. We’re incredibly proud of each member who has deployed, as well as the crews back home who continue protecting our district while their brothers and sisters are away.

A huge thank you to Joe V's Smart Shop on West Road for stopping by Station 82 yesterday and bringing meals, snacks, and plenty of goodies for our crews!

Gestures like this mean more than you may realize. Our firefighters spend long hours away from their families, ready to answer the call at a moment’s notice, and having members of our community take the time to think of them is truly appreciated.

🐾🇺🇸 THE UNSUNG HEROES OF 9/11 🇺🇸🐾

When we remember September 11, 2001, we remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and countless others who ran toward unimaginable devastation.

But among those heroes were hundreds who served on four paws.

Search and rescue K9s and their handlers worked tirelessly at Ground Zero and the Pentagon, climbing across unstable debris, squeezing into spaces humans couldn’t reach, and searching hour after hour for survivors and the fallen.

These dogs didn’t understand terrorism. They didn’t understand why the towers were gone or why so many people were hurting.

They simply knew they had a job to do — SEARCH.

Through smoke, dust, twisted steel, broken concrete, exhaustion, and danger, they kept going. Their handlers were right beside them, placing incredible trust in their partners with every step.

Their work wasn’t only about finding people. In the darkest days following 9/11, these K9s also provided something desperately needed — comfort, hope, and a reminder of unconditional loyalty.

Today, as we honor the lives lost and the heroes who answered the call, we also remember the paws that searched through the rubble.

To the K9s and handlers who served after September 11th , your service mattered, your sacrifice mattered, and you will not be forgotten.

Today, we remember the 2,977 lives taken on September 11, 2001. We remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, first responders, military personnel, and ordinary citizens who demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

But today, we also remember those who carried a different kind of burden home.

The families who woke up on September 12 without a mother or father. The parents who lost a son or daughter. The brothers and sisters who lost a lifelong friend. The spouses who suddenly faced a future without the person they planned to grow old with. And the children who grew up knowing their parent only through photographs, stories, and the memories shared by others.

Twenty-five years have passed, but time does not erase an empty chair at the table or the absence of someone you love.

Today, we lift up every family whose life was forever changed that September morning. May they know that their loved ones are remembered, their sacrifice is honored, and their families have not been forgotten.

We remember the fallen.
We honor the heroes.
We stand with the families.

A concerned bystander called after spotting a puppy underneath a sidewalk. Our crews quickly rescued one, but soon discovered there were more!

A huge shoutout to Harris County Pets Officers Jesus Villegas and Ruben Moreno, who got down and dirty alongside our crews. After nearly two hours of digging, we rescued a second puppy and set a trap for a third.

During the rescue, we also discovered a large washed-out void beneath the sidewalk, creating a potential collapse hazard, especially concerning since the sidewalk leads to Heritage Elementary. County crews were notified and will be out to address the hazard.

Two puppies rescued, another rescue effort underway, and a potential hazard identified. Just another day of serving our community!

Tonight, we officially kicked off Little York Fire Department’s Citizens Fire Academy, and what a great way to start!

Our participants got an inside look at Little York Fire Department—our past, where we are today, and where we’re headed in the future. Fire Chief Sean Richardson spent the evening sharing the story of our department, how we serve our community, and the vision guiding Little York forward.

Over the coming weeks, these citizens will step behind the scenes and experience the fire service from a whole new perspective. From emergency operations and EMS to rescue, communications, hands-on skills, and much more.

Most importantly, this Academy is about building relationships. We want our community to know who we are, what we do, and why we do it.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our very first class. We’re excited for what’s ahead!

ROSS FIRE UPDATE | STILL ON THE LINE

For nearly two weeks, members of the Little York Fire Department have been hundreds of miles from home, working alongside firefighters from across Texas on the Ross Fire.

Captain Broadrick and Firefighter Serna continue representing Little York and Harris County ESD No. 17 as part of our TIFMAS deployment in North Texas.

Since arriving, they have spent long days working the fireline, supporting containment efforts, strengthening lines, extinguishing hotspots, and doing whatever is needed to help bring this massive wildfire under control.

Back home, we continue to follow their progress and couldn’t be prouder of the work they are doing. Deployments like this require sacrifice not only from our firefighters, but also from the families waiting for them at home and the Little York crews who continue protecting our community while they’re away.

Captain Broadrick and Firefighter Serna, keep up the great work, stay safe, and know your Little York family is behind you.
