BAHEP was pleased to attend the Greater Houston Partnership’s Lunch & Learn, “Defense Industrial Base Update: Navigating DoW’s Expansion Initiatives,” and hear from an outstanding panel on the evolving Defense Industrial Base. We appreciated insights from Jack Peterson with the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, Nancy Perez with Gretna Machine Shop, and Bart Taylor, President of the Greater Houston Manufacturers Association, on what these developments mean for Houston-area manufacturers and the broader industrial base.

The conversation also highlighted the upcoming Build Freedom Summit and Career Expo, taking place October 20–22 at the Galveston Convention Center. Thank you to the Greater Houston Partnership and Valerie Matthieu for hosting a great discussion and for bringing together leaders focused on strengthening manufacturing, workforce development, and the Defense Industrial Base.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of longtime BAHEP member, supporter, and friend Dr. Pat Potter Wilson. Pat was a pillar of the Bay Area Houston community and a friend to many. She dedicated her life to education, serving as a teacher, librarian, professor, mentor, and community leader. Her career was closely tied to the University of Houston-Clear Lake, where she served for many years as a professor of library and information science and reading education and later as associate professor emeritus.

Pat’s commitment to our community extended well beyond the classroom. She gave her time to many educational, cultural, and nonprofit organizations throughout the Bay Area and made many friends along the way. Pat and her husband, Wendell, also shared a love of travel and enjoyed exploring the world together.

We extend our condolences to Wendell, Pat’s family, and her many friends. Pat will be remembered for her friendship, her service to our community, and her dedication to education. A Celebration of Life for Dr. Pat Potter Wilson will be held on December 5, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
