The Italy-America Chamber of Commerce South Central is pleased to share the news that the popular Italian market and food pavilion Eataly has opened a new location in Dallas, the company’s first in Texas.

The new 46,000-square-feet space includes food shops and restaurants offering authentic Italian food products and dishes. It also includes a wine shop with a wide selection of top bottles.
When it first opened in Italy in 2007, it changed the way people all over the world would shop for and enjoy Italian cookery. It’s much more than a typical food hall: It actually recreates an Italian cityscape where visitors pass by a fish monger, a butcher, a produce shop, and a classic Italian café on their way to sit down in a pizzeria, seafood bar, or pasta restaurant. From the outset, guests loved the way it made them feel like they were in a small Italian town — even Italians in Italy!

In 2010, Eataly opened its first location in New York City. Its resounding success and reception led to locations across the U.S.

Dallas now joins New York, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas as cities with an Eataly.

The Dallas Morning News called it “one of the most significant local food moments of 2020.”
And not only does Eataly carry often hard-to-get authentic Italian food products but it also offers a wide variety of food seminars, cooking classes, and wine tastings.

The IACC couldn’t be more thrilled that there is now an Eataly in Texas!

The event is part of the fifth annual Settimana della Cucina Italiana nel Mondo (Week of Italian Cuisine in the World) organized by the Italian Foreign Ministry.

The Italy-America Chamber of Commerce South-Central is proud to present a Master Class on Prosciutto di Parma and Grana Padano with “Prosciutto Whisperer” Francesco Lupo.

Francesco is widely considered to be one of the leading experts on Prosciutto di Parma and Grana Padano in the U.S. today and currently serves as the official U.S. ambassador for the Prosciutto di Parma Consortium.

For his virtual master class on Sunday, November 22 in Houston, select food professionals and food-focused media members will be provided with samples of both Prosciutto di Parma and Grana Padano. Francesco will then lead them through best practices for storing, trimming, slicing, and serving these iconic Italian food products. He’ll also address ways of ascertaining the authenticity of the products and how to discern them from “Italian-sounding” foods that resemble the genuine products but come from other parts of the world. Lastly, he’ll share traditional and creative serving suggestions together with notes on how they are used in classic Italian cookery as well as international cuisine.

The masterclass will be followed by a virtual dinner: A celebration of Pellegrino Artusi and the “Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well,” hosted by Italian General Consul in Houston Federico Ciattaglia and Houston-based food and wine historian Jeremy Parzen.

On Sunday, November 22, 2020, the Italian Consulate in Houston presents “A celebration of Pellegrino Artusi and the ‘Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well,’” a virtual dinner featuring Consul General Federico Ciattaglia.

In 1891, Romagna-born Pellegrino Artusi self-published his cookery book, “Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well,” including 790 recipes. While the first printing of the book would only sell a few thousand copies, the work would ultimately become the quintessential Italian cookery book, selling hundreds of thousands of editions before Artusi’s death in 1911. By the time the book was reprinted in the post-war era, it had become a must-have for Italian households across the nation. Today, you can find the book in nearly every Italian family’s library.

The world of Italian wine mourns the passing of IACC member Nicola Durandi, beloved Friulian winemaker. – Iacctexas

It was with heavy hearts that we learned yesterday of Nicola Durandi’s premature passing.

He was a grape grower, winemaker, and entrepreneur with deep ties to the U.S. and the state of Texas, where he visited regularly.

According to local media reports, the cause of death was a heart attack. He was 43 years old.

His family’s Antonutti winery and estate in Grave (Friuli) is one of Italy’s most highly regarded. And its wines have won countless awards and other coveted accolades over the nearly 100 years it has been producing top wines.

His work brought him often to Texas and we always looked forward to his visits and tastings. He and his family’s wines were recently featured at a virtual wine dinner hosted by another IACC member here in Houston where our headquarters are located.

That’s Nicola (right) in the photo above with his Texas sales manager Melania Spagnoli, another close friend of the chamber and one of Houston’s leading wine professionals.

With his broad smile and hearty handshake, Nicola had become one of Houston’s favorite Italian winemakers. He will be sorely missed.
