The Ocean View School District was first established on coastal farmland in 1874, making it one of the oldest districts in Orange County. Today, the K-8 school district provides services to a student population of 8,000 students, 1,000 employees, and 14 elementary and middle schools, in addition to two preschools. OVSD serves all or portions of the cities of Huntington Beach, Westminster, Fountain Valley and Midway City. We are proud to build upon our rich history of high academic standards for all students and to provide a collaborative, nurturing learning environment aimed at lifelong success. 🔢 Today I am a mathematician.

It starts with counting one number at a time. Then comes grouping by 10s, spotting patterns, and finding new ways to solve a problem. Soon, numbers become variables, and students are tackling linear equations and discovering just how far their mathematical thinking can take them. ➕📐✨

Becoming a mathematician doesn’t happen all at once. Each new concept builds on what came before, one lesson and one school day at a time. Every day in class is another opportunity to think, problem-solve, and grow. Because when students are here today, they’re building the skills for who they’ll become tomorrow. 💫

Yesterday, OVSD hosted an Employee Health Fair, giving our team a convenient one-stop opportunity to prepare for the year ahead. Employees could enroll in medical, dental, and vision insurance, explore additional coverage options, connect directly with benefit vendors, and get answers to their questions.

And talk about convenience—flu shots were available right on the spot! 💉

Schools helping schools! 🛠️ 🎒

Students in Mr. Hardy’s wood shop class at Mesa View Middle School put their skills to work to create something special for younger OVSD students at Golden View Elementary ...brand-new backpack racks!

The Mesa View students helped construct, paint and install the racks, taking their project from the wood shop all the way to the Golden View campus. It’s hands-on learning with a purpose and a great example of the collaboration and connection that happens across OVSD schools. 😀

It starts with a little hand tracing a letter. Then comes spelling a first word. Soon, ideas fill bubble maps, sentences stretch across pages, and those first short stories begin to take shape. 📚✨

Becoming a writer doesn’t happen in a single lesson. It happens little by little, day by day, each new skill building on the one learned before. Every day at school is another chance to practice, discover, create, and grow. Because when students are here today, there’s no telling what they’ll become tomorrow. 💫

🌊 Making waves in marine science! 🐬

At last night’s OVSD Board of Trustees Meeting, was celebrated for earning USA Blue School status from the National Marine Educators Association, one of only four schools in California and approximately 50 nationwide to receive this recognition!

Through conservation lessons, hands-on learning, and the student-led Marine Science Expo, Village View Dolphins are discovering the wonders of our oceans while learning how to protect them for future generations. 🌎

🧪 Learning is bubbling with possibilities at Hope View Elementary ! 🍬🏗️

At last night’s OVSD Board of Trustees’ Meeting, Principal Christy Luckey and teacher Emily Yamaguchi shared how students are diving into hands-on science and engineering.
With support from the Assistance League and Hope View PTO, fourth- and fifth-graders have tested bubble gum, engineered egg-drop protection, built spaghetti-and-marshmallow towers, and more—all while strengthening creativity, teamwork, communication, and critical thinking.

At tonight's OVSD Board of Trustees' Meeting, Tracy Souders was appointed the District's new Curriculum Specialist.

Mrs. Souders brings nearly 30 years of experience in OVSD, serving students from TK through eighth grade. She spent more than 20 years at Golden View Elementary before transitioning to Marine View Middle School, where she has taught seventh- and eighth-grade English Language Arts since 2017. Her extensive experience across elementary and middle school, along with her background in curriculum development, literacy, MTSS, differentiated instruction, and professional learning, will bring a valuable K–8 perspective to her new role. Congrats Tracy!😀🎉
