HB APA - Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts The Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts (HB APA) is the magnet arts program for the HBUHSD How are we important to education?

Research suggests a direct correlation between involvement in the arts and heightened mathematical, reading, critical thinking and organizational skills. Students who study the arts are also shown to have a better concept of self, tolerance, and empathy for others. APA provides artistic and technical outlets for young artists and arts enthusiasts in grades 9-12 on Huntington Beach High School's ca

mpus. We train our students to focus on both their academic and artistic education simultaneously. APA's visual-performing arts courses fulfill the admission requirements for colleges and universities including those of the University of California and the California State University systems.

The benefit show for the APA Theatre Department which includings Acting, Dramatic Production, and Musical Theatre majors. Join us for four shows with itty bitty bites & big laughs in the APA Studio Theater (black box behind the auditorium on the campus of HBHS 1905 Main Street, HB, CA 92648).

Ten explorers. Four boats. One Grand Canyon. MEN ON BOATS is the true(ish) history of an 1869 expedition to chart the Colorado River.

Equal parts thrilling adventure and sharp-witted comedy, Jaclyn Backhaus' MEN ON BOATS offers a daring and humorous retelling of history that explores the meaning of pushing forward when faced with peril. The year is 1869. Guided by the spirited explorer John Wesley Powell, an eclectic group of adventurers embarks on a quest to chart the Colorado River and American frontier driven by ambition, hunger, and a touch of madness. They encounter perilous rapids, conflicting personalities, and a fair share of chaos.

Under the direction of staff advisor Susan West, the APA council meets weekly and plans student events such as the annual APA Academy Awards, Walk for the Arts, New Student BBQ, council dances, and other community outreach. APA freshmen can participate as "APA Nuggets" for their first year under the mentorship of more experienced APA Student Council members. Recap Time! Check out these quick clips of our many, many films and music videos that the APA MMET Media Team created this year which were screened on May 16th at the historic Bay Theatre in Seal Beach! APA's high school students learn screenwriting, storyboarding, producing, directing, cinematography, lighting, sound design, editing, working with actors/musicians, live video camera operation and more with these amazing productions.
