Suffolk County Legislature’s September General Meeting Recap:

* Advanced key protections for seniors by adopting a new local law targeting gold bar and precious‑metal courier scams. I was proud to sponsor this important legislation alongside Legislator Thorne to protect our senior population.

* Set a public hearing for the Proposed 2027 County Operating Budget.

* Approved critical infrastructure restoration funding for the Vanderbilt Museum.

* Recognized two outstanding public servants:

- Probation Officer Colleen Galbraith for exceptional work during a high‑risk arrest.

- NYPD Officer Edwin Rivera for saving a child’s life from drowning while off-duty in Huntington Station.

A strong start back into legislative meetings after a brief recess in August. Our next General Meeting is Wednesday, October 14th.

Those of us old enough to remember September 11, 2001, will never forget that day. But how do we ensure that those who were not yet born remember the lives lost and the events that changed our nation forever?

That is why it is so important that September 11 is taught in our schools, 25 years later and for generations to come.

We had the opportunity to witness a truly meaningful experience at Stimson Middle School, where each student researched three to four individuals who lost their lives on 9/11. Through that experience, students were able to put photographs, names, and stories to the history they were learning and gain a deeper understanding of the horrific tragedy and heroic actions that day.

Thank you to Assistant Principal James Tomeo and the entire administrative team for creating such an immersive and meaningful experience for their students.

Students walked past displays of those they researched and continued to Peter A. Nelson Park, honoring Huntington resident, FDNY and volunteer firefighter with the Huntington Manor Fire Department Peter Nelson, who lost his life on 9/11. Each student placed a flower on a collage of the American flag in memory of those who perished and had the opportunity to greet members of the Nelson family, who joined the ceremony via livestream from Colorado.

We will always remember. And through experiences like this, we can make sure future generations do too. 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks and honor the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost that day, and those who have passed since due to 9/11 related illnesses.

We remember the brave first responders and volunteers who answered the call, as well as those who continue to battle or have lost their lives to 9/11-related illnesses.

Twenty-five years later, we remember, we honor, and we will never forget.

Forever in our hearts. 🇺🇸

September is National Recovery Month, a time to raise awareness, celebrate those in recovery, and remind our community that recovery is possible.

To kick off National Recovery Month, the Town of Huntington hosted a flag-raising ceremony at Town Hall yesterday. The Village of Northport also came together for a flag-raising ceremony and candlelight vigil at Northport Village Park.

These events serve as an important reminder that recovery touches individuals, families, and communities throughout Long Island. By raising awareness, reducing stigma, and supporting those on their journey, we can continue building a community where no one has to face recovery alone.

Let’s stand together in support of recovery. 💜
