A cyanobacteria health advisory has been issued for Ririe Reservoir in Bonneville County. People and pets should stay out of the water. Cyanobacteria harmful algal blooms (HABs) pose a high risk to the health of pets and livestock and can cause illness in humans, especially small children.

Cyanobacteria are a natural part of Idaho’s waterbodies, but when conditions are right, they can multiply rapidly, or “bloom,” and release toxins into the water. Exposure to cyanotoxins through skin contact or ingestion can cause skin irritation, upset stomach, and more serious symptoms. Effects can be more serious in animals since they are more likely to drink the water.

Blooms don’t all look the same; they may look like mats, foam, spilled paint, or surface scum and have a foul odor. Use caution when recreating in and around water. When in doubt, stay out and keep pets out of the water.

Learn more about cyanobacteria blooms and how to report a potential bloom on the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality website at https://www.deq.idaho.gov/water-quality/surface-water/cyanobacteria-harmful-algal-blooms/

See these buckets? They're for classrooms, filled with a variety of emergency first aide and safety supplies. Our team has been working with the The Bonneville Education Foundation to get donations so we have enough for every classroom in Bonneville School District 93. We can't thank our community enough for helping make the project a reality, it's been awesome! If you'd like to help, details are in their post below.

🪣💙 We sure love our SROs!

This project simply would not have been possible without our incredible School Resource Officers and their constant commitment to the safety of our students.

We have a BIG dream at the Bonneville Education Foundation: emergency supplies in every classroom throughout Bonneville School District 93. And we are actively working toward that dream one bucket at a time!

We are incredibly grateful for the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and our amazing SROs for helping us turn this idea into a reality.

We are SO excited to have our first 376 FAST Buckets officially in classrooms, but we still have a long way to go! 🪣

Want to help us get there?

❤️ Donations can be made through the Bonneville Education Foundation specifically to support FAST Buckets.

🏫 We would love to partner with PTOs and student leadership groups throughout D93 to fundraise for the classrooms in their own schools.

🤝 If you are a local business looking to sponsor your child’s school, we would love to work with you too!

Every bucket gets us one classroom closer. If you would like to help us reach our goal, please reach out!
