Monday - Saturday we receive anywhere from 50-100 dogs/cats per day. These animals are found stray, owner surrendered or saved from animal abuse situations. Please go to www.coj.net/pets to look at all of our lost

dogs and cats that we have. Please consider adopting a dog and/or cat from Animal Care & Protective Services. All of them need homes.

🐾 CYLER’S PICKS! 🐾

Today, Cyler picked Brandon (A1478655) ! 💪

Brandon is 3 years old and, in Cyler’s words, a “gentle giant.”🥹

His most recent foster noted that Brandon was incredibly gentle with both children and adults and did great with other dogs.

Brandon may be MASSIVE but he's an even bigger sweetheart.

Interested in meeting Brandon or any of Cyler’s Picks?

💕 Tilly (A1482226)

At just 10 weeks old, Tilly experiences things a little differently.
She has limited vision and hearing. She can sometimes see things up close and can hear very high frequencies, but she can’t see far away or hear normal conversation or barking.

But Tilly has already figured out one thing loud and clear: she LOVES other dogs. 🐶💗
She’ll happily follow her dog friends around, attempt to join in on playtime, and seems to take a lot of comfort in having them nearby.

And for a 10-week-old puppy? She’s been pretty impressive. Tilly keeps her chewing to her toys, we haven’t heard her bark, and while she may cry when she realizes she’s been left alone, she’s happiest when she has some company.

Tilly’s still just a baby with so much ahead of her 🥹
Because of her limited hearing and vision, we’re looking for an experienced adopter or rescue who can help set her up for success as she grows.

Think Tilly could be the right fit for you?

Today, our ACPS family remembers and honors Anne Varn, a dedicated animal advocate, foster, friend, and cherished part of the Dogs Around Duval community whose love for shelter dogs changed more lives than we could ever count.

Through her dedication to Dogs Around Duval and years of fostering, Anne gave so many ACPS dogs something they desperately needed: a chance to be known beyond the shelter.

Anne had a special way of seeing who a dog was outside of the kennel.
With her, dogs had the opportunity to settle into a home, experience new adventures, and let their personalities come through.

For those who simply needed someone in their corner, Anne was there.

She fostered countless dogs over the years, helping many find loving families, while a lucky few managed to convince Anne they were already home.

Franklin, whom Anne lovingly called her soul dog, was one of them.
After fostering him and watching him get adopted, Anne welcomed him back with open arms when he later returned to the shelter 🥹

Goosie came to her as an emaciated foster who simply needed a place to heal. She found that with Anne, and eventually found her forever home with her, too.

Anne's commitment to these dogs continued through her final days.

On August 17, she spent her final Dogs Around Duval outing with Conway Twitty.
Shortly after, she welcomed 11-year-old Scarlet into her home as her newest foster.

Anne was surrounded by Franklin, Goosie, and Scarlet when she passed.
She left this world surrounded by the very lives she had dedicated so much of hers to saving.

Today, Franklin, Goosie, and Scarlet are back in our care at ACPS. Their lives have changed suddenly, and now three dogs who meant so much to Anne are once again depending on the community she was such a special part of.

And already, our community has begun wrapping its arms around them.

We are incredibly grateful to Hounds Town for opening their doors to Franklin and Goosie, who will be making their way there this evening while we work to find their forever homes. Scarlet will remain in our care as we search for hers.

Our greatest hope is to find each of them the kind of loving home Anne would have wanted for them, one where they will be cherished just as much as they were with her.

Anne gave so much of herself to the dogs who needed her.
Now, it is our privilege to care for the ones she leaves behind. 💕

Meet Wrinkles (A1470565) — four years old, handsome in a distinguished gentleman kind of way, and made up of approximately 37%....wrinkles.

Despite looking like he has several overdue bills and a lot on his mind,
Wrinkles is actually a very happy GOOD BOY.

He walks well on leash, takes his playtime seriously, and has undeniable main character energy. He’s loyal, affectionate, and more than ready for his time in the spotlight.

Ready to meet him?

Animal Care & Protective Services may be the name on the building, but caring for thousands of animals each year takes a community — and we are incredibly fortunate to have two nonprofit partners helping us do more for the animals of Jacksonville. 🐾❤️

Friends of Jacksonville Animals (FOJA) plays an essential role in helping with the medical needs that go beyond the basics ACPS can provide. From funding heartworm treatment to assisting with specialty medical care and other requests from our Animal Services Officers, FOJA helps give animals access to resources that can make a tremendous difference in their recovery and their future.

And now, Forever Friends Jax (FFJ) is joining that support system to help fill additional gaps. FFJ is beginning with a focus on enrichment — helping provide the toys, activities, comfort items, and other resources that make shelter life a little less stressful and a lot more engaging for the animals in our care. As they grow, FFJ plans to expand their fundraising efforts to help meet other needs throughout ACPS as well.

These organizations have different roles, but one shared purpose: supporting the animals and the people working every day to care for them.

The reality is that municipal shelters have limits. There will always be needs that stretch beyond our regular resources, and that is exactly why partnerships like these matter.

FOJA and FFJ help us bridge those gaps, provide more opportunities for our animals, and strengthen the work happening at ACPS every single day.

We are incredibly happy to have both FOJA and Forever Friends Jax in our corner — and we truly need them both. Their support doesn't replace the work of ACPS; it expands what is possible. 💕🐶🐱

When you support either organization, you're helping them support us — and ultimately, the animals who depend on all of us.

ACPS handles the care. FOJA and FFJ help us go further. Together, we can do more. 🐾

Happy Labor Day! 🇺🇸

We’re open today from 12 PM–7 PM, and if you’re looking for a good excuse to slow down and do absolutely nothing for a while, we’ve got one.

Have you been to our Bold Kitty Cafe?

I decided to spend my day off lounging around with some of the coolest cats around. I brought my own coffee, grabbed a book, and before I knew it, I was completely settled in—coffee in hand, book open, surrounded by cats and with nowhere else I needed to be.

And honestly, that’s what makes the Bold Kitty Cafe so special.

It’s more than just a place to hang out with cats. It’s a space where you can slow down, relax, and actually get to know the cats who are waiting for their people.

Every cat here is looking for a home. And sometimes, all it takes is a little time together to realize you’ve found the one.

So come spend part of your Labor Day with us. Grab a coffee, bring a book, meet some cats, and maybe give one of them the best thing they could ask for:

a place to call home. 🐈

For a heartworm-positive dog, treatment means slowing down, resting, and healing — and a busy shelter can be a tough place to do that.

That’s where you come in.

We’re looking for fosters who can open their home for just 30 days and give a dog the quiet, comfortable place they need while undergoing heartworm treatment.

🏡 30 days in your home.
🩺 We provide the medical care.
🐾 No lifelong commitment.
❤️ One life-changing difference.

You don’t have to adopt.
You don’t have to commit forever.
You just have to give them a safe place to heal.

Can you spare 30 days?
If so, please email our foster team.
