Trans people have always been on the frontlines in the global struggle against fascism. For years, trans people have been sounding the alarm that their very existence is under attack. Now, we’re watching in real time as the systematic targeting of trans people increases and the repressive tactics used against them are being expanded.
Like attacks on the autonomy of other groups, the intentional targeting of trans people is designed to reinforce power structures — in this case, gender — that the state uses to control and repress. And just as we watched the erosion of Palestinian rights in this country used as a weapon against civil society, the attacks on trans people are being expanded to do the same
The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention and Human Security—one of the first organizations to accurately identify the Israeli military’s genocide in Gaza—issued its third Red Flag Alert for genocide against trans people in the US this March.
According to their report: “Since June of last year, there has been a sharp escalation in genocidal language and actions against trans people in the US In 2025 alone, lawmakers across the United States passed 125 bills that negatively impact the rights and wellbeing of trans people.”
At a moment when trans people around the world are under attack from right-wing institutions and politicians, and Palestinians of all genders and sexual identities are resisting Israeli genocide, apartheid, and occupation, we join together to build safety and justice for all people.
While the Trump administration tries to tear down the fabric of a vibrant and defiant community, we know these attempts, while deeply harmful, will not stick. Trans people have always existed, and that won’t change even amidst these devastating blows. This month and always, we will not only stand beside, but also intervene in injustices the trans community faces. Our liberation is inseparable.
