On the high holidays, we declare that the year ahead is not predetermined, that we the people have power to determine through our actions the course of the future. We turn to look within as a way to re-commit to being our better selves.
Following decades of apartheid, nearly three years into Israel’s current genocide in Gaza and two years into Trump’s attempted fascist reign, our grief, rage, and heartbreak knows no end. We take this moment to look within and resolve to stay in the struggle.
We are renewing our collective responsibility. We are recommitting to our vision of a transformed world, to honor the dead and fight for the living. We refuse to be complicit or complacent. We recommit to breaking the chains of oppression in our time, through powerful action and consistent solidarity.
One way that the High Holy Days invite us to do that is by giving tzedakah, a practice of material solidarity toward collective safety and freedom for all people.
We are continuing to raise funds for Gaza Soup Kitchen (GSK), a life-saving, Palestinian-led mutual aid food distribution project. Through the GiveButter website, GSK is able to access the money raised on its behalf on an ongoing basis. While governments stall, grassroots networks are keeping people alive.
Every dollar helps send Palestinians in Gaza hot meals, clean water, and a message of love and solidarity, as they continue to experience the horrors of Israel’s ongoing genocide.
