Myth: "If someone is being abused, they can just leave."

Fact: Leaving an abusive relationship isn't always simple—and can be the most dangerous time for a survivor. Fear, financial concerns, children, housing, and threats from an abuser can make leaving incredibly difficult.

Let's replace judgment with compassion and support. 💜

Myth: “If someone is being abused, they can just leave.”

Fact: Leaving an abusive relationship is often the most dangerous time for a survivor. Many face barriers such as fear of escalating violence, financial dependence, housing challenges, childcare concerns, threats, or emotional manipulation. Abuse is about power and control, making the decision to leave far more complex than many people realize.

Instead of asking,“Why didn’t they leave?” let's ask,“How can we better support survivors?” 💜
