York Street Project

York Street Project York Street Project uses innovative programs to shelter, feed, educate and promote the healing of women and their children. https://linktr.ee/YorkStreetProject

The York Street Project is a one-stop network of programs:

St. Mary's Residence: Affordable housing and support for working women with limited income. The Nurturing Place: A year-round licensed early childhood development center for children aged 4 months to 6 years whose mothers are at work or school. St. Joseph's Home: A safe and structured living environment for single mothers and their children that guides and supports them as they transition to new independent lives. Working with nearly 300 women and children each year, we are proud that this network of support enables 75% of our families to leave our Home and begin their journey to a new life of independence. This is made possible by the generosity of so many who provide cash or product donations, volunteer on-site, sponsor a field trip for our students, or spread the word. Please call, email, or visit our website to find out more.

Every year at our Celebration of Hope Gala, we recognize people whose commitment to Jersey City families has been long, quiet, and consequential. This year, we are not just honoring an individual; we are honoring an institution.

Saint Peter's Preparatory School has been a longtime source of some of our most consistent and dedicated volunteers. Current students and alumni have contributed incredible work throughout the year and have also helped us prepare our building as we get ready to partner with a local charter school and share our grounds with their students.

We are proud to recognize St. Peter's Prep for the values it instills in its students, and the way those students carry that culture of service into the Hudson County community.

For this year's Celebration of Hope, we shall be awarding the Kristin Funari Legacy of Hope Award to St. Peter's; it is a small way of showing our gratitude for something which has meant a great deal to us.

If you have any connection with St. Peter's Prep or have passed the building and have wondered what the young people inside are like, we hope you will come and take part in our event. The Celebration of Hope will take place at Hudson House on October 8, and we look forward to having you at our ceremony.

At York Street Project, we believe every family deserves the opportunity to build a safe, stable future.

Our work goes beyond providing a place to stay. We support women, children, and families as they work toward greater independence through housing, early childhood education, job readiness, and individualized support.

For the children we serve, stability can mean having a consistent place to learn, play, grow, and feel secure. For their parents, it can mean having the time, resources, and support needed to pursue employment, education, and permanent housing.

These changes happen over time, and they are possible because our community continues to invest in the families who come through York Street Project.

On October 8, we will come together at Hudson House for Celebration of Hope to recognize that progress and help ensure that more Hudson County families have the opportunity to build lasting stability.

What a day at Arcola. ⛳💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us for York Street Project’s 27th Annual Golf Outing and helped make the day such a meaningful one for the women, children, and families we serve.

We are incredibly grateful to our golfers, sponsors, donors, volunteers, Board members, Golf Committee, community partners, and friends who continue to show up for York Street Project year after year. A very special thank you to the Haydon Family, our Tournament Sponsor, for their generosity, leadership, and continued support of this event. Their commitment helped make the day possible and set the tone for an incredible afternoon of community and giving.

We are also deeply grateful to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace and Peace Ministries, whose presence and continued commitment to York Street Project remain such an important part of our community. And thank you to the Lawrence Foundation and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, whose matching challenges totaled $70,000, helping gifts made during the program go even further.

To our Golf Committee, thank you for the time, relationships, outreach, and energy you put into making this event possible. To our BNY Pershing volunteers, thank you for welcoming guests, supporting registration, helping on the course, and stepping in wherever you were needed. And to every sponsor, golfer, bidder, donor, and guest who participated throughout the day, thank you for being part of this community and for helping York Street Project continue this work.

We are especially thankful to Aleshia, a former resident, for sharing her story with our guests and receiving the Champion of Hope Award. Her words brought us back to the reason we gather in the first place: to stand alongside women and families as they work toward safe housing, employment, education, stability for their children, and greater independence.

The Golf Outing may last one day, but the impact of this community extends far beyond the course. Thank you for being part of it. 💙

If your company sets aside resources for community investment, we invite you to consider York Street Project. Our Celebration of Hope Gala will take place on October 8 at Hudson House in Jersey City.

The evening supports York Street Project’s work alongside women, children, and families experiencing homelessness and housing instability in Hudson County.

Our approach recognizes that stability rarely comes from addressing one challenge in isolation. Families may be navigating housing, employment, childcare, education, and other needs at the same time. Through housing support, Rapid Rehousing, early childhood education at The Nurturing Place, job readiness through LEAP, and comprehensive case management, our team works alongside families as they build greater stability over time.

Corporate sponsorship of Celebration of Hope is an opportunity for local businesses and organizations to uplift that work and become part of a community committed to supporting families throughout Jersey City and Hudson County.

🎮🚌 The gaming bus pulled up, and it was officially game time at York Street Project this month.

Thanks to Gotta Go Gaming Hub & Sci-Tech Learning Center, our residents enjoyed two hours of unlimited video games, including Mario Kart, Minecraft, and more.

The afternoon brought plenty of friendly competition and laughter, while giving families a chance to relax, play, and spend time together.

Summer should include moments that are simply about having fun, and this was certainly one of them. 💙

Thank you to for bringing such a fun experience right to York Street Project.

🌊 We went Under the Sea at The Nurturing Place!

Our end-of-year celebration brought families together for an afternoon filled with bubbles, games, art, face painting, and even a surprise appearance from everyone’s favorite sea witch, Ursula. 🐙

The celebration was also an opportunity to recognize the community that families and teachers have built together throughout the year.

The teachers at The Nurturing Place do more than help children learn and grow. They get to know the whole family, become familiar and trusted faces, and continue showing up throughout the year.

We hope everyone carries a little of that summer magic with them into the weeks ahead. 🐚
