The past 10 days have been an incredible period of engagement, partnership, and service for the Iowa National Guard.

From Croatia to Kosovo, Washington, D.C., and back home in Johnston, Iowa, our Soldiers and Airmen have been strengthening relationships, supporting our communities, and advancing our shared security objectives.

At the Adriatic 5 Conference in Croatia, we supported our state partner, the Republic of Kosovo, through important security dialogue with regional partners and U.S. European Command. These conversations reinforced the value of enduring partnerships and our shared commitment to a secure and stable region.

In Washington, D.C., I had the opportunity to visit Iowa Soldiers supporting local law enforcement and see firsthand their professionalism and dedication to mission.

Back in Iowa, it was a privilege to engage with Kosovo Consul General Drilon Zogaj as he prepares to return to Kosovo following a highly successful posting at the Kosovo Consulate in Des Moines. His leadership has helped strengthen the extraordinary relationship between Iowa and Kosovo.

We also welcomed NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker to our headquarters in Johnston for important discussions about our partnerships, our missions, and the role of the Iowa National Guard in supporting collective security.

And throughout it all, more than 40 Iowa Soldiers and Airmen serving in Kosovo supported six partnership events, continuing a relationship that has grown stronger through decades of cooperation.

Finally, it was a privilege to celebrate the promotion of Kyle Obrecht and Nick White to the rank of Colonel. Their promotions are a reflection of their years of dedicated service, leadership, and commitment to our Soldiers, Airmen, and the mission. Congratulations to both of them and their families!

Ten days. Countless engagements. One incredible team.

I couldn’t be prouder of the Iowa National Guard and the difference our Soldiers and Airmen continue to make at home and around the world.

Today, we remember September 11, 2001, and honor the lives lost and the countless sacrifices made by first responders, service members, survivors, and families. We will never forget their courage, strength, and selflessness. 🇺🇸

September 11, 2001 - Never Forget. 🇺🇸

Twenty-five years ago, our nation was forever changed by the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, honor the courage of the first responders and ordinary Americans who ran toward danger, and recognize the service members who answered the call in the years that followed.

We remember those we lost. We honor those who served. And we carry forward the resilience and unity shown by Americans in the face of tragedy.

Never Forget.
