Three young Red-Shouldered Hawks are back where they belong—soaring free in the wild🪽

Each hawk arrived at Busch Wildlife Sanctuary separately after being displaced from the nest as vulnerable nestlings. Unable to be re-nested, all three were admitted to our Nursery suffering from dehydration and weakness.

Over the following weeks, our dedicated team provided round-the-clock care, flight conditioning, and live prey testing to ensure they had the skills needed to thrive on their own.

Patient #2172 was admitted on May 10 and spent 33 days in care
Patient #2212 was admitted on May 11 and spent 32 days in care
Patient #2436 was admitted on May 23 and spent 20 days in care

Today, we're celebrating their successful release and the countless second chances made possible through wildlife rehabilitation❤️

Every rescue story is made possible by supporters like you! Together, we can ensure that every patient that comes through our doors has the opportunity to heal, grow, and soar free once again.

We're excited to share a special project created in partnership with Florida Atlantic University! 🎬

As part of a semester-long nonprofit storytelling project, three master's students collaborated with Busch Wildlife Sanctuary to create a short documentary showcasing our mission, impact, and commitment to Florida's native wildlife.

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to support students in our community while also benefiting from their creativity, dedication, and passion for storytelling. Thank you to the students and faculty at Florida Atlantic University for helping us tell our story and inspire others to support wildlife conservation and rehabilitation💚

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT🌟

Ryan has been volunteering with the Sanctuary for just about a year now and never misses his education shift! He is exceptionally reliable and serves as a fantastic trail greeter. On multiple occasions, visitors went out of their way to commend his educational abilities and expressed their appreciation for the insights he provided.

This summer, he is going above and beyond by taking on two additional trail greeting shifts! We are truly grateful to have someone as dedicated, friendly, and knowledgeable as Ryan on our team.

It's National Cougar Day! 🐾

Today, we're celebrating one of North America's most important predators and highlighting the ongoing conservation efforts that help protect the endangered Florida panther.

At Busch Wildlife Sanctuary, our resident California cougars, Tahmahlah and Charlie, serve as ambassadors for their distant cousins, the Florida panther. These remarkable cats help inspire people to learn about the challenges facing Florida's state animal and the importance of protecting the habitats they call home.

As apex predators, panthers play a vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. But habitat loss and human-wildlife conflicts continue to threaten their survival. By educating the public and fostering appreciation for these incredible animals, we can all play a part in ensuring a future for Florida panthers.

Join us in celebrating National Cougar Day and helping raise awareness for the conservation of these majestic cats🐈💙

What a beautiful morning at Carlin Park! 💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us today to celebrate the release of a Brown Pelican that spent more than 250 days in rehabilitation at Busch Wildlife Sanctuary.

This patient was admitted in September 2025 severely underweight, suffering from intestinal parasites, and with extensive feather damage that prevented it from flying properly. After recovering from starvation and other medical issues, our veterinary team performed a specialized procedure to remove the damaged feathers & help healthy ones regrow. Months later, after dedicated care and patience, this resilient bird was finally ready to return to the wild.

Moments like these remind us why wildlife rehabilitation matters!

Thank you to everyone who came out to witness this incredible milestone with us. And if you missed today's release, be sure to follow our page for future opportunities to watch native wildlife return home where it belongs🪽
