Happy National Alligator Day! 🐊

Today we’re celebrating Freddy, our American alligator ambassador, and the important role alligators play in Florida’s ecosystems.

Did you know alligators are considered a keystone species? Alligators dig “gator holes,” which retain water during dry periods and provide refuge for fish, birds, turtles, and other wildlife. As an apex predator, alligators also help maintain a healthy & balanced ecosystem population.

By symbolically adopting Freddy through our Adopt-An-Animal program, you directly support her daily care while also contributing to Busch Wildlife Sanctuary’s mission of wildlife rehabilitation and environmental education💚

💚River otters can hold their breath underwater for up to 8 minutes
💚They use their whiskers to help detect prey
💚Baby otters are born blind & toothless, completely dependent on mom until weaned

These intelligent mammals are incredible swimmers and an important part of healthy freshwater ecosystems.

Busch Wildlife Sanctuary is thrilled to announce that the Admirals Cove Foundation has once again awarded the organization a $10,000 grant to support environmental education programming for underserved youth in Palm Beach County💚

This year’s grant will fund offsite environmental education programming for youth participating in programs at El Sol Neighborhood Resource Center and the Edna W. Runner Education Center, both located in Jupiter. Through hands-on lessons featuring Busch Wildlife Sanctuary’s animal ambassadors, students will explore a variety of environmental and wildlife topics designed to inspire curiosity and connection to the natural world.

We're extremely grateful to the Admirals Cove Foundation for recognizing the importance of providing environmental education opportunities to underserved youth in our community!

Busch Wildlife Sanctuary is currently seeking local businesses, instructors, organizations, and community partners interested in hosting third-party fundraising events to support our mission of wildlife rehabilitation and environmental education!

Over the years, our community has supported wildlife through a variety of creative and engaging events, including:
