Greater access to technology and high-speed internet is now within reach for Moloka'i residents.

A grand opening celebration was held last week for Moloka'i's Digital Hub marking the launch of the much-needed hotspot. The center provides free internet, computers, printers, and hands-on technical assistance for the rural island community.

The hub was created by the Moloka'i Homestead Farmers Alliance with the goal of providing island residents with the space and tools needed to connect, learn, and thrive in our digital world.

Funding for the Hub’s eight computers came from the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands, which used a federal grant from the Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program to support the hub.

The Digital Hub will open to the public Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and one Saturday each month starting October 1.

Project leases are the department’s new approach to moving beneficiaries off the waitlist. This initiative aims to create various avenues to homeownership while safeguarding the legacy of an ‘ohana’s lease.
