The Maniilaq Office of Environmental Health proudly recognizes Roberta Sampson, Tribal Injury Prevention Coordinator, with a Spot Award for her outstanding service as a volunteer firefighter during the Uutukuu Restaurant and Store fire on June 2, 2026.

Thanks to Roberta’s quick response, skill, and dedication during fire suppression activities, surrounding structures were protected from damage and no injuries were reported. Her actions directly supported Maniilaq’s mission of protecting the health and safety of our communities.

Roberta exemplifies the spirit of service and community protection. Her commitment to public safety — both in her professional role and as a volunteer — reflects the highest standards of Maniilaq Association.

🏃‍♀️‍➡️🏃‍➡️🏃‍♂️‍➡️Last week's Memorial Day Race went off without a hitch! The race started with 20 participants at 1:00 PM between Maniilaq Health Center and our IT building. The racers went up the hill past the cemetery and back.

Pieter Jung got first place, finishing the race in 49 minutes and 24 seconds.

Coltrone Chase got 2nd place, finishing in 49 minutes and 47 seconds.

Joseph Bifelt got 3rd place, finishing the race in 49 minutes and 58 seconds.

Matthew Kittrel finished the race last in 2 hours and 21 minutes.
