Charles County Government’s Department of Public Works is conducting a paving project on Washington Avenue between Rosewick Road and Talbot Street. Work began on August 16, 2026, and will take place between the hours of 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The project is anticipated to be completed by September 11, 2026, weather permitting.

Traffic control measures and signage will be in place throughout the project. One lane will remain open to traffic during construction.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the work zone and should expect delays during this project's schedule.

Washington Avenue milling and paving:

Milling and Paving on Washington Avenue between Talbot street and Rosewick Road will start on August 17 (weather permitting). Work will take place between the hours of 8:00 pm to 5:00 am and has an anticipated completion date of September 11.

Traffic control and signage will be in place during the project as one lane will be open. Please use caution and expect delays.

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the Town of La Plata will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 6:00 PM, or as soon thereafter as possible, in La Plata Town Hall, 305 Queen Anne Street, La Plata, Maryland, for the purpose of hearing public comment on the following:

Zoning Text Amendment – Accessory Dwelling Units

At the public hearing, all parties in interest and citizens will have an opportunity to be heard. Special accommodation for persons with disabilities will be made upon request. The Charter Amendment Resolution proposes to repeal and reenact with amendments:

Article III, § C3-4 – Meeting of Council. To eliminate language authorizing the Mayor to call a special meeting.
Article IV, § C4-3(F) – Powers and duties. To eliminate language indicating that the Mayor shall serve as President of the Council, and the process by which an Acting President of the Council shall be appointed in the absence of the Mayor.
