It was a privilege to hear from the chair of the North Penn School District World Language Department, Ms. Atkiss, along with several of our students. What stood out most was the genuine passion and deep appreciation our students have for the cultures they’ve been exposed to, and the creative, thoughtful ways our teachers foster those connections in the classroom.
Students shared powerful reflections that spoke volumes about the impact of these programs. One student noted, “He (her teacher) prioritizes personal goals over test scores,” while another reminded us that “ASL is about both communication and inclusion.” These perspectives highlight how learning a language goes far beyond vocabulary, it builds empathy, understanding, and a sense of belonging.
I continue to be in awe of the diverse opportunities North Penn provides for our students. I am deeply grateful to the educators and staff who make these experiences possible, helping students discover passions and pursue dreams they they didn’t know they had.
