The Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility (LCMHF) was built in response to an April 1989 federal court order which directed that the State develop and implement an acceptable long-term plan for the mentally ill, protective custody, and high-security residents. LCMHF is now a 598-bed, multi-custody programming facility. The facility consists of the Central Unit, which has the capacity to house
310 male maximum/medium custody residents, the West Unit, with a capacity of 288 male minimum custody residents, and the South Unit, with a capacity of 120 male medium custody residents. In accordance with KDOC and State of Kansas policies, information posted to this site may be removed for the following reasons:

(5) Conduct or encouragement of illegal activity;

(8) Content that holds the State of Kansas, its agencies, officers, employees, or public officials in false
light; or
(9) Information that violates operational security or is protected by law. The above list shall not be deemed to be all-inclusive and the State of Kansas and KDOC reserve the right to add additional criterion.
