Jonathan Warren was appointed Consul of the Principality of Monaco in Las Vegas by HSH Prince Albert II in 2010. Consulates are the oldest form of bilateral diplomacy. The first recorded us
e of consuls was in ancient China. In Europe, early use of Consuls appears when the Consul of Genoa laid claim to a rocky outcropping to build a fortress in 1080. His descendents, the Grimaldis, turned that area into the Principality of Monaco in 1297. They have held it ever since, and are the oldest reigning dynasty in the world. The principality of Monaco was the first foreign country to establish a consulate in the state of Nevada.
