β›³οΈπŸŒπŸΌOn June 13, Eagles Landing once again hosted their annual charity golf tournament at Conestoga Golf Club in support of the City of Mesquite Police and Fire Departments.

A huge thank you to Kenny Huff and Jim Frump for the countless hours they put into making this event such a success. From the incredible turnout to one of the most memorable National Anthem flyovers we’ve ever seen, it was a day to remember.

This year’s tournament raised $9,250 for the Mesquite Police Department and $9,250 for Mesquite Fire Rescue. Over the past six years, this event has generated more than $65,000 to support our local first responders.

We’re also incredibly grateful to every sponsor, volunteer, golfer, and supporter who helped make this event possible. Your continued support means more than you know, and we’re proud to serve a community that always shows up for its first responders.

Thank you, Mesquite.

DAY 1: Government & Law Enforcement Impersonation Scams

🚨 SCAM SERIES: DAY 1

Government & Law Enforcement Impersonation Scams

Scammers are becoming increasingly convincing by pretending to be police officers, FBI agents, IRS employees, Social Security representatives, or other government officials.

They may tell you:
β€’ Your identity has been used in a crime.
β€’ There is a warrant for your arrest.
β€’ Your bank accounts have been compromised.
β€’ You missed jury duty.
β€’ Your Social Security number has been suspended.
β€’ Your money must be "protected" during an investigation.

These criminals often use caller ID spoofing, fake credentials, and official-sounding language to create fear and urgency.

Remember:

❌ No law enforcement agency will ask you to:
β€’ Withdraw your savings.
β€’ Purchase gold.
β€’ Buy gift cards.
β€’ Transfer cryptocurrency.
β€’ Give money or valuables to a courier.
β€’ Keep an investigation secret from your family.

Protect Yourself

βœ” Hang up if you feel pressured.
βœ” Verify the caller by contacting the agency directly using an official phone number.
βœ” Talk to a trusted family member before making any financial decisions.

If someone tells you to move your money "for your own protection," it's almost certainly a scam.

SCAM ALERT: Fraudsters Are Becoming More Sophisticated

The Mesquite Police Department is warning our community about an increase in sophisticated fraud schemes targeting people of all ages. These criminals are highly convincing and often spend days or even weeks building trust before asking for money or valuables. For the next several days, we will put out additional information about each specific scam. Today is an overview.

One of the fastest growing scams involves criminals posing as government agencies, law enforcement officers, banks, or financial institutions. Victims are falsely told their money is at risk due to fraud or an ongoing investigation and are instructed to withdraw cash, purchase gold or other valuables, or transfer funds to "protect" their assets. In some cases, a courier is sent directly to the victim's home to collect the money or valuables.

Unfortunately, these scams don't stop there. We are also seeing:

- Individuals impersonating family members claiming to be in jail or involved in an emergency and urgently needing money.

- Scammers posing as utility companies threatening to disconnect service unless immediate payment is made.

- Fake computer or technical support representatives claiming your computer has been hacked or infected with a virus.

- Romance scams where criminals build online relationships before requesting money.

- Investment and cryptocurrency scams promising guaranteed returns or exclusive opportunities.

- Text messages and emails claiming unpaid tolls, package delivery problems, or account issues that direct victims to fake websites designed to steal personal and financial information.

Protect Yourself:

βœ… Never send money, purchase gift cards, buy gold, or transfer cryptocurrency because someone contacts you unexpectedly.

βœ… No legitimate government agency or law enforcement officer will ask you to withdraw your money, buy gold, or hand your valuables to a courier for "safekeeping."

βœ… Be suspicious of anyone creating a sense of urgency or telling you to keep the situation secret.

βœ… Never provide personal information, banking details, passwords, or verification codes to someone who contacts you unexpectedly.

βœ… If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact the agency, business, or family member directly using a phone number you know is legitimate.

If you believe you are being targeted by a scam or if something simply doesn't feel right stop the conversation and contact the Mesquite Police Department before taking any action. A quick phone call could prevent the loss of your hard earned savings.

Please share this post with your family, friends, and neighbors. Together, we can help protect our community from becoming victims of fraud.

250 years of freedom is worth celebrating β€” safely. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

As we get ready for the Fourth of July, Mesquite Fire Rescue wants to remind everyone to keep the celebration safe, legal, and respectful of our community.

Use Safe & Sane fireworks only, purchase them from licensed local stands, keep them on the ground, have water ready, and never use fireworks near dry brush, vehicles, homes, or crowds.

Illegal fireworks are not worth the risk. One bad decision can quickly turn a celebration into a fire, injury, or emergency response.

Report illegal fireworks at ISpyFireworks.com or call 311.
Please keep 9-1-1 open for life-threatening emergencies only.

Celebrate freedom. Protect your neighbors. Stay safe, Mesquite.
