On Monday, 18 May 26, the Jayhawk Battalion proudly commissioned 28 new Second Lieutenants during our Spring Commissioning Ceremony at the University of Kansas Memorial Union, bringing this year’s total to 32 newly commissioned officers — the largest commissioning class from KU Army ROTC since 1958.

These new officers commissioned into Active Duty, the Kansas Army National Guard, and the United States Army Reserve, representing the future of leadership across our Army.

This ceremony also marked a major milestone for the battalion as we proudly welcomed and commissioned Cadets from both Park University and UMKC for the first time as part of the expanded Jayhawk Battalion family.

From Lawrence to locations across the world, these officers now begin the next chapter of service to our nation.

Congratulations to the Jayhawk Battalion Class of 2026. We are proud of you.

Final Leadership Lab of the semester

Today, Jayhawk Battalion Cadets conducted Combat Water Survival Training at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center. From water confidence drills to survival techniques in uniform, Cadets were pushed outside their comfort zones and challenged to stay calm under pressure.

Leadership starts where comfort ends.

Special thanks to the City of Lawrence and the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center for supporting our training.

Attention School Counselors, Parents, and Future Seniors (Class of 2027)

The Army ROTC National High School Scholarship application opens 14 June 2026 — and now is the time for students to start preparing.

This scholarship can provide:
✔ Full tuition or up to $12,000/year room & board
✔ $420/month living stipend
✔ $1,200/year for books
✔ Leadership training while earning a degree
✔ No obligation during freshman year

Students can attend over 1,000 colleges and universities nationwide with Army ROTC — including the University of Kansas and our partner schools across Kansas and Missouri.

🎯 What students should do now:
Ask your guidance counselor for an updated transcript through the end of junior year so your application can be completed early this summer for the best chance of selection.

I’m happy to help students every step of the way, even if they are not planning to attend KU. My goal is to help them find the best path to a debt-free college education and leadership opportunities after graduation.

📅 Mark your calendar: Applications open June 14

Over spring break, the KU Army ROTC Battalion took on the Bataan Memorial Death March with grit and determination. Our A Team powered through to earn 3rd place in the Male Military Heavy Division, while our B Team fought hard to secure 14th place in the ROTC Heavy Division.

Proud of the resilience, discipline, and warrior spirit shown by every cadet who stepped up to the challenge.
