Levant Fire is excited to announce we have been awarded grant money to purchase some updated safety equipment for our department- we plan to invest in our members with new structural gloves and added safety equipment to ensure our people remain safe while responding to incidents!

Press Release
For Immediate Release

Officials for the Town of Levant are pleased to announce that they have been awarded a Safety Grant by the Maine Municipal Association Workers Compensation Fund in the amount of $3,000.00.

The Ed MacDonald Safety Grants and Scholarship provide financial assistance to members of the MMA Workers Compensation Fund to purchase safety equipment or services to assist in reducing the frequency and severity of workplace injuries. The grant programs are designed to prevent injuries and improve workplace safety for our Maine employees. The reduction in employee injuries also benefits the taxpayers by lessening lost hours at work, cost of claims and potential overtime expenses for employees who might have to fill in for injured co-workers.

The Maine Municipal Association has been awarding Safety Grants to members of the Workers’ Compensation fund since 1999. The Ed MacDonald Safety Grants and Scholarships are an example of a successful partnership that has been preventing workplace injuries by bestowing more than $7.1 million in the funding of 4,692 Safety Grants and 581 Scholarship. Together we are building safe communities.

To celebrate EMS week we joined other local departments for a relaxing evening, enjoying great food cooked by our brother and sisters at Kenduskeag Fire-Rescue !! Thank you for the great night and given the week many public safety personnel have had, great to just connect and enjoy the partnership!

Tuesday night, we hosted a mutual aid BBQ at Station 66 to allow our area agencies to come together and celebrate EMS Week. We're extremely grateful for all our surrounding public safety partners.

Like so many other departments...our hearts hurt as a family. We were blessed and honored to send a truck and crew to help in Searsmont today. To show up for our brothers and sisters and help with cleanup and offer just a small part of help.
Seeing the total devastation our thoughts are with so many who gave time, and effort to fight this fire. Now many face the struggles of what they saw what they heard and had to deal with...the road to healing will be long, reach out ...talk to someone and know at every corner of the state people are here for you!
Many of these firefighters woke up yesterday...just a normal day, but dropped everything to help others...many having the life they live flipped upside down...doing something THEY wanted to do. Every town should stop, reflect and appreciate the men and woman of your local departments full time, part time or volunteer we all fight together.
As we prepare to celebrate EMS week next week, many in public saftey are hurting we need everyone more then ever!!

Penobscot County units staged at Newburgh Fire. The convoy is now off to Searsmont to support suppression efforts and provide some relief to crews who worked through the night at this incident. We are proud to be a part of this effort and support our neighbors. Thank you to all of these dedicated members! Also thank you to PRCC director Lavoie and Hermon Fire Chief Sullivan for coordinating the counties response south.
