During the August monthly meeting Fire Chief Robbie Stephens awarded several new members their black helmet shield along with their green insert.

Zane Brockbrader, Sharoon Mall, Liam Drevno, and Caela Grim (not pictured) were all recognized for their completion of training and membership requirements.

The Black color shield represents the members membership status as a regular member which means they have completed a minimum one year probationary period in which they complete initial training and become oriented to the department.
The green insert represents the firefighters level of training and signifies that they have completed initial training to become an interior firefighter and they have passed our in house evaluation verifiying the skills required to be an interior firefighter.
This represents many hours of training, hard work and dedication to the community.

In the evening of August 10th the Lewes Fire Dept was dispatched for an Motor vehicle collision with entrapment on Rt 24. Crews found a single vehicle MVC with the driver trapped. Crews worked to extricate the heavily entrapped victim. He was transported to a trauma center from the scene via Delaware trooper 2.

IMPORTANT UPDATE TO EVENT SCHEDULE:

NOW AUGUST 29TH AT 9AM

The Lewes Designer Showhouse has continued to gain popularity with a grand opening seemingly larger than we intended. After many discussions with our City officials, designers, and admins, we have concluded in order to provide the safest, most efficient and of course most beautiful spaces for the public, it is in everyone’s best interest that we extend the date of the grand opening to take place on August 29th 9am.

This is exactly two weeks past our previously scheduled grand opening. The Lewes Designer Showhouse will NOT be open any day or time before August 29th 9am. We hope all who are excited to attend and have already purchased their event tickets, fully understand our change of schedule. Please do not hesitate to contact us for questions or concerns. We can’t wait to see you all on August 29th as we continue to support our Lewes Fire & Emergency Services Department!

This special event, hosted by Paint Paper & Panel 🎨 and the Lewes Fire Department 🚒, transforms a home through the work of local designers, builders, and artisans, then opens it to the public with ALL ticket proceeds and sponsorships benefiting the Lewes Fire Department!

✨Opening day will include a ribbon cutting ✂️ ceremony by our very own Mayor Marasco Saturday August 15th at 9AM! 🎊🎉

Yesterday evening as storms rolled through the area this came with it many calls for service for the Lewes Fire Department. Rescue 82 was returning from a vehicle accident on Rt 24 when a house fire was dispatched in the Harbour Point neighborhood. R82 arrived to find a two-story single-family home with smoke showing.
Crews found active fire in the crawlspace from what appears to be from a lightning strike.
This fire was the first working alarm for the new Ladder 82.
Crews worked for 2 hours at this scene and handled a total of 9 Fire/Ems calls during that time.

10 Years Ago on July 11, 2016, the Delaware Fire-Rescue Service lost one of its best.

Timothy J. McClanahan was killed as a result of a Training Accident, while conducting hoist training with the Delaware Air Rescue Team.

Tim was an active member of the Lewes Fire Department and the Delaware Air Rescue Team, as well as a well respected instructor with the Delaware State Fire School.

We take a moment today, and everyday, to remember Tim’s legacy of dedication, service, and excellence.

Tim’s mother Rita continues to carry his legacy through her own service to the LFD, as an active member of our Auxiliary.

Statement from the Lewes Fire Department

The Lewes Fire Department is aware of the arrest and indictment of member Mike Truitt on multiple charges.

Upon notification of the charges, the department immediately suspended Mr. Truitt pending the resolution of the legal proceedings. The actions alleged are a personal matter involving Mr. Truitt and do not reflect the values, mission, or standards of the Lewes Fire Department.

As this is an active legal matter, the Lewes Fire Department will not provide additional comment or information at this time. The department remains committed to serving the community with professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
