Capitalism does not collapse just because its crises get deeper and more destructive. A financial bubble may burst. A new technology may deepen unemployment and crisis. War, debt and financial breakdown may bring enormous destruction. None of that proves that capitalism has reached its final crisis, or that the crisis itself will compel workers to choose revolution. Economic catastrophe can open the way to revolution, but it cannot by itself make workers revolutionaries, build their organizations or win the fight. Those have to be built through class struggle.

It is the United States government that enacted this blockade, and it’s them who can end it. But they will not do it out of their own benevolence. Trump certainly won’t do it. And if there is an election in November 2028, whoever wins will not do it on their own. It is on us to build a fighting mass movement to end the blockade.

Biden, Trump and Netanyahu have killed over 70,000 Palestinians in Gaza, including 20,000 children. Thousands more have been killed with U.S.-made bombs and shells in Lebanon and Iran. Zionist settlers, many of them from the U.S., have been killing Palestinians on the West Bank.

The U.S. war on Iran, the genocide in Gaza, the containment war against China, and here at home the war on migrant workers and oppressed nationalities, the stripping of abortion rights from women, and the campaign against trans and other LGBTQ+ people are the fronts where the ruling class is trying to force its way out of this crisis.

Defense of the oppressed nations and the socialist countries against U.S. imperialism, and of everyone the ruling class is attacking at home, is where a revolutionary movement in this country is tested, and where the ruling class can be beaten. Each of these struggles can block one of the ways the U.S. ruling class is trying to make workers and oppressed peoples pay for the crisis.

The report of the State Department seems like a fable. And it gives Cuba credit for things that it’s impossible for a nation of Cuba to carry it out, and it discredits the genuine movements for justice, the genuine movements for civil rights and the genuine movements even for freedom that have existed in the United States for decades.

So, it’s an exaggeration to try to place Cuba in the absurd position of being a threat to the most powerful nation on Earth, and it’s also a way to blur a very clear and undisputable truth: that between Cuba and the United States, there is one country that is the aggressor, and one country, which is Cuba, that is under aggression.
