An important part of upholding positive mental health is making time for and developing self-love and self-care. This includes accepting that you are worthy of love, having appreciation for yourself, learning healthy coping skills, having positive relationships and boundaries, meeting your own needs, being kind to yourself, and learning about what you like and embracing it. While we recognize that this is not always easy with the many responsibilities, distractions, and stressors of daily life, this month we encourage you to make self-love and self-care a priority! And if this feels challenging, seek support. You are not alone. #MentalHealthAwareness
Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay, and we, at Bet Tzedek, want to remind you that you are not alone! People from all backgrounds and walks of life struggle with maintaining positive mental health. Persevering through mental health disruptions and trauma is deeply challenging, but support and resources are available. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help!

With the everyday tasks, full schedules, and stressors of life, it’s easy to put your mental health on the backburner. But we, at Bet Tzedek, encourage you to focus on yourself this month: take a breath and reach out for help when you need it! Cezar Chavez was a Mexican-American activist and advocate for workers’ rights. He practiced nonviolent protests, formed dozens of advocacy groups and organizations, and is arguably one of the most well-known Hispanic figures in the history of U.S. civil rights. We are deeply grateful for Chavez’s work and seek to carry out his mission for social change in order to create a future with equity for all. #HispanicHeritageMonth
Helen Rodríguez-Trías was an American pediatrician, educator, and women's rights activist and is credited with helping to expand the range of public health services for women and children in minority and low-income populations around the world. #HispanicHeritageMonth
Sonya Sotomayor is the first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice! Raised by Puerto Rican immigrant parents in the Bronx, Sonya graduated from Yale Law School in 1979, had a truly notable legal career, and was nominated by President Barack Obama in 2009 to the Court. In addition to being the first Hispanic person to serve on the Supreme Court, Sonya is also the third woman, first woman of color, and first Latina to serve. We agree with Sonya — dream big! At Bet Tzedek, we dream of a future where all communities have equitable access to justice, and through our work, we aspire to create this reality. #HispanicHeritageMonth
This #GrandparentsWeek keep Bet Tzedek's Kinship Care program in mind! This program helps #grandparents caring for their grandchildren understand and address relevant legal rights and responsibilities, including legal guardianship or completing a caregiver affidavit.

Born to Mexican and Puerto Rican parents, Sylvia Mendez is an American civil rights activist who played an instrumental role in the Mendez v. Westminster case, which successfully ended de jure segregation in California and paved the way for integration and the American Civil Rights movement. We, at Bet Tzedek, are grateful for both Sylvia’s dedication to justice and her contributions to equality and progress. #HispanicHeritageMonth

“I paint characters like Wonder Woman and other superheroes in wheelchairs and/or on crutches to teach children that even though a person may have a disability or something unique about them, everyone has their own superpowers.” -

Meet Kenneth Tam, an AAPIn (AAPI Network) Houston, TX and Queens, NY-based artist whose work is quickly making him a household name. Tam works across video, sculpture, performance, movement, installation, and photography, and makes work about the performance of masculinity, spaces of physical intimacy, and the transformative potential of private ritual. The Crossing, a performance piece initially shown at The Kitchen in December 2020, is one of his first works that explicitly grapples with how masculinity intersects with race. The artist trains his lens onto the rituals of AAPIn fraternities, inquiring into the ways they create belonging and identity while also adopting practices that subvert these very bonds. #ArtForJustice

#SoundOn! When Bet Tzedek attorneys first met Osmin, he was in danger of dropping out of school to support his family and often chose to live in a shelter rather than staying at home, given the environment. Bet Tzedek helped Osmin’s grandmother become his legal guardian as well as helped him acquire special immigrant juvenile status, in order to set Osmin on a path to opportunity. Osmin is now a proud father and has a successful career in welding around which he hopes to start his own business. We’re proud to be able to offer a helping hand to talented and driven individuals like Osmin!
