For the past 5 years, Dodgers fan and social media creator Makenna Martin has turned her love of the team into an opportunity to raise awareness and funds in support of survivors of domestic violence.

Makenna first started her bracket while she was still in high school. When domestic violence allegations were made against then-Dodgers player Trevor Bauer, she saw an opportunity to use her platform to spark conversations about abuse and support survivors. She introduced a minimum donation to participate, with all proceeds benefiting local organizations that provide services to survivors of abuse.

Today, we celebrate April and her incredible 11-year journey with Peace Over Violence!

April began with POV as a volunteer, later became an Emergency Services Coordinator, and today serves as our Emergency Services Program Supervisor. Throughout her journey, she has been a dedicated advocate for survivors and an instrumental member of our SART/DART response, showing up during some of the most difficult and critical moments in a survivor’s life.

Over the years, April has supported countless survivors through our 24/7 crisis hotline and our SART and DART emergency response programs. Today, she also helps lead and support our amazing Emergency Services team, sharing the experience, compassion, and commitment she has built throughout her years at POV.

April’s dedication to this work is reflected in the care she brings to every response and her commitment to ensuring that survivors are treated with dignity, respect, compassion, and choice.

April, thank you for 11 years of showing up-for survivors, for your team, and for our community. We are so grateful for your advocacy, leadership, and commitment to the mission of Peace Over Violence.

As Peace Over Violence celebrates 55 years of Legacy, Love, and Leadership, we are proud to recognize Sam Dordulian, Founder of Dordulian Law Group, with the Leadership Over Violence Award at this year’s Lunch Over Violence.

Sam Dordulian is a nationally respected victims’ rights attorney whose career reflects a longstanding commitment to justice, dignity, and healing for survivors of sexual violence. With more than 26 years of litigation experience, he has built Dordulian Law Group into a survivor-centered firm recognized for trauma-informed advocacy, legal excellence, and accountability.

Before entering civil practice, Sam served as a Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney and sex-crimes prosecutor, advocating for victims and protecting vulnerable members of the community. Today, he continues that commitment by representing survivors of sexual abuse and assault and helping them navigate the legal system in their pursuit of justice.

Through his SAJE Team-an integrated network of clinical, investigative, and advocacy professionals, and his service on RAINN’s National Leadership Council, Sam continues to advance trauma-informed responses and stronger support for survivors.

We are honored to recognize Sam Dordulian for his leadership, dedication to survivors, and commitment to advancing victims’ rights and strengthening the movement to end sexual violence.

Today, we pause to honor the lives and legacies of Gloria Steinem and Robin Morgan. Through their courageous activism, influential writing and leadership in feminist media, Gloria and Robin helped shape the women's movement for generations.

Their passing invites us to reflect on a generation of women who brought issues of gender inequality, sexual and domestic violence, and women’s safety into public consciousness.

Peace Over Violence was born from this same era of grassroots activism. More than 55 years ago, women gathered around a kitchen table in Los Angeles with a shared belief that survivors deserved to be heard, supported, and believed.

Their legacies live on in the work that so many continue to carry forward every day.

Five years ago, as Peace Over Violence marked our 50th anniversary, we looked back at where we began and the people who helped build this movement.

Today, as we celebrate 55 years of Peace Over Violence, that legacy continues.

Since 1971, Peace Over Violence has been a pioneering force in the movement to end sexual and domestic violence—standing with survivors, strengthening families, advancing prevention, and building communities rooted in dignity, safety, and justice.

This year, we celebrate Legacy, Love, and Leadership—honoring the generations of staff, advocates, volunteers, survivors, leaders, and community partners who built this legacy; those carrying the work forward today; and the next generation of changemakers who will shape its future.

On October 14, we’ll come together at Lunch Over Violence to celebrate this extraordinary milestone and invest in the work still ahead.

Celebrating 10 Years at Peace Over Violence!

Today, we celebrate Jasmine Barnes , Director of Training, Education & Empowerment Self-Defense, and 10 years of dedication to Peace Over Violence.

Throughout the past decade, Jasmine has contributed to POV in so many meaningful ways. Her compassion, commitment, and heart for this work have been present throughout her journey. She has supported survivors, strengthened our programs, shared her knowledge with staff and community partners, and continued to grow as a leader.

Those of us who have had the opportunity to work closely with Jasmine have seen firsthand her dedication, growth, and genuine care for the people and communities we serve. Her leadership today reflects the experience, knowledge, and passion she has built over her 10 years at POV.
