A Place Called Home

APCH provides a safe, nurturing environment with proven programs in the arts, education and wellness.

At A Place Called Home, caring staff, supporters and volunteers come together to provide South Central children and teens 8 years old – 24 years old with love, safety, enrichment, training, and opportunities through educational programs, counseling, and mentorship. After-school, weekend, and all-day summer programs and services include tutoring and homework support, as well as a full spectrum of i

nstruction in the arts, athletics, dance and music. Our high school dropout recovery partnership with LAUSD is open in the mornings and we provide year-round support for college preparation, SAT tutoring, and college counseling and scholarships. In 2012 we provided support for 68 first-generation college students in local schools and across the country. Whatever your age, when you join APCH, you bring amazing skills and abilities that may not be fully realized yet. Our smart, caring staff provides individualized attention to every member of our community, through which youth discover their interests, their talents – and their capabilities. Did we ever mention how much our youth love the dance program here at A Place Called Home? And for many, it’s more than just dance. It’s an opportunity for their individuality, growth, and creativity to shine and develop! ✨

Our programs and services are designed to support youth throughout their development, from elementary school through young adulthood, focusing on building social-emotional and economic success.

We offer programming to provide a broad range of opportunities for youth to discover new interests, along with advanced classes in in-depth studies and specific career paths.

What a dream! 💭

Our youth got a firsthand look at the Rams’ football practice this week, watching the team train and even getting to meet offensive lineman, Steve Avila. 🤯🏈

We also found out we’re one of 10 organizations selected for the LA28 Community Ticket Program, meaning our kids will get to attend the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games right here in LA - what a treat!

None of this could’ve happened without the generosity and investment of the LA Rams. We’re so grateful to be one of the first orgs chosen and grateful to Steve for taking the time with our youth. 🙌

On Friday, August 7 at 3pm, we will be distributing 1,500+ backpacks filled with school supplies and other essential items alongside our event partners, Herbalife and LA Galaxy at our annual Backpack Distribution & Resource Fair!

In partnership with our community partners, we’re helping local students in South LA start the school year prepared and ready.

We hosted our first putting competition that brought our community together for a few hours of friendly competition, good company, laughter - and all for a great cause!

If you haven’t heard, 29Live! is our official musical ensemble, which is part of our music program. 29Live! offers both performance opportunities and lessons through individual and group instruction.

Our littles, middles, and teens had a blast during their crepe competition!

Each participant had 30 minutes to plan, prep, cook, and present their masterpieces, and then they were graded based on creativity and cleanliness!

Our culinary courses are so much more than learning how to cook. They’re also about discovering new talents, developing life skills, and building self-confidence, so it’s a joy to see all the effort, dedication, and imagination our youth showcase when they put their heads together.
