📢 We're getting the word out about end-of-year trash and recycling information!

Our solid waste hauler, Athens Services, will have no pickup of trash on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, or on New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1. Services will be provided one day later than the regularly scheduled pickup day.

Holiday trees are 100% recyclable! Athens Services will collect holiday trees on regular pickup days beginning Tuesday, December 26 through Friday, January 5.

Tips to ensure collection of your holiday tree:
🎄 Remove stands, ornaments, lights, and tinsel
🎄 Place holiday trees at the curb
🎄 Trees over six feet in length must be cut in half
🎄 Trees with flocking or fire retardants are acceptable
🎄 Do not leave the tree in a plastic bag as the bag gets caught in the chipper blades

Gift boxes, wrapping paper, and other paper packaging can be recycled with your regular paper and cardboard recycling.

Our Arts Division just installed the sweetest new temporary public artwork, Rebekah Rose’s Peaches and Tea! 😋 🍑 🍵

Rebekah Rose (they/she) proclaims: This one is for the queens! The gender expansive they/she/hes who are breaking boundaries and busting binaries every day in a society that threatens to erase them. It is a wish for the q***r community to enjoy simple pleasures and experience ease everywhere they go. These three queens have chosen each other as family and are enjoying a gay day in the park. They serve up tea and eat peaches in broad daylight, and no one bothers them as they enjoy each other’s company. They represent the joy and love that everyone under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella deserves to experience every day.

To see this 9’-by-9’ vinyl mural installation for yourself, head to the ground floor of the West Hollywood Park Five-Story Parking Structure, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.

The mural is planned to be on display through April 2025.

The holidays are here! 🍂❄️🧤☃️ That means it's extra important to stay up to date on vaccinations and limit the spread of COVID-19, influenza (flu), and RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus)!

These illnesses are typically spread by direct contact with a person who has a respiratory virus (through coughing or sneezing) or indirect contact with a person who has a respiratory virus (from items an infected person touched). To better protect yourself and those around you, staying up to date on vaccinations is a safe and powerful way to help prevent severe illness and hospitalization. ✅

Public Health officials recommend using masks in crowded indoor spaces, staying home when sick, and testing for COVID-19 before gatherings. 👍

The City of West Hollywood has received a score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2023 Municipal Equality Index (MEI)! 👏

A city’s MEI score is based on its non-discrimination laws, its recognition of relationships, its fairness and inclusiveness as an employer, its municipal services, its law enforcement, and its relationship with its LGBTQ community.

Since incorporation in 1984, the City of West Hollywood has become one of the most influential cities in the nation regarding its stance on LGBTQ issues — no other city of its size has had a greater impact on the national public policy discourse on fairness and inclusiveness for LGBTQ people.

Joyous tunes sing brightly
Orbits of lights string the streets
Yellow candles stir meditations with tea
Olive branches ask for peace
Upward arches forge iconic memories
Sweet glances swing love into the new year

12/05/2023

Our Human Rights Speakers Series, in conjunction with Netflix, will host a screening of the film The Dads followed by a panel discussion featuring director Luchina Fisher and participants from the film.

The Dads is a short documentary, executive produced by Dwyane Wade. In this gentle meditation on fatherhood, brotherhood, and manhood, five fathers of trans children join Dennis Shepard – the father of slain gay college student Matthew Shepard – for a weekend fishing trip in rural Oklahoma. As the men cast their lines into the river, they find common ground across racial, geographical, and generational lines: their unconditional love for their children.

The event will take place on Thursday, December 7, at the City of West Hollywood’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room. Doors will open at 6:30 PM and opening remarks will take place at 7 PM, followed by the film screening and panel discussion.

The event is free, but seating is limited! RSVP is required.

12/03/2023

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has received multiple reports of dogs experiencing a sudden respiratory illness of unknown origin.

The respiratory illness impacting dogs is currently known as Atypical Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease (aCIRD).

Symptoms for dogs include cough, nasal discharge, sneezing, and lethargy.

Related to this, the Vanderpump Dog Foundation cancelled its World Dog Day 2023 event, which had been scheduled to take place in West Hollywood Park on Saturday, December 2, 2023. The cancellation was made to ensure all necessary precautions are taken to safeguard the health and wellness of dogs. The event is anticipated to be rescheduled in 2024.

At this time, the City of West Hollywood will maintain regular operations and cleaning for William S. Hart Dog Park and Dog Parks at West Hollywood Park, keeping them open. Advisory information about Atypical Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease (aCIRD) will be posted in these park areas.

10 years of good vibes and safe drives! 🚌 💃 🪩 🕺

Launched in 2013, The PickUp is our fun, flirtatious, (and free!) trolley that runs along Santa Monica Boulevard on Friday and Saturday nights from 8 PM to 3 AM, on Sundays from 2 PM to 10 PM, and on certain holidays.

The PickUp carries people safely to and from bars, clubs, restaurants, and entertainment venues in and around the Rainbow District and Center City and Eastside areas!

We're celebrating The PickUp's 10-year anniversary with a community reception and the theme of the celebration has a critical message: do not drink (or use) and drive.

We work year-round to raise awareness about safe driving, distractions, and pedestrian safety. Our Drive Mindfully campaign reminds community members to embrace a mindful approach to driving so we can all do our part to help encourage safety in the community whether we’re driving, bicycling, or walking. 🧠 💪

The reception will take place on Monday, December 4 at 5:30 PM in the motor court adjacent to our Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room.

We hope you'll join us! 🤗

Today is West Hollywood Day! Celebrate 39 years of cityhood with us! 🌈

Nearly forty years ago, West Hollywood’s Cityhood was proposed by an unlikely coalition of LGBT activists, seniors, and renters — these groups came together to form a City like no other with progressive policies and strong tenants’ rights protections.

Through tireless determination, the City of West Hollywood was officially incorporated as an independent municipality on November 29, 1984. 👏

Since then, we have continued to set new standards for other municipalities, not only as a leader in many critical social movements — including HIV and AIDS advocacy; affordable and inclusionary housing; LGBT rights, civil rights, and human rights; women’s rights; protection of our environment; and animal rights — but also in fiscal responsibility; city planning; infrastructure; social services programs; wellness and recreation programs; senior services and aging-in-place programs; public and community arts; community engagement; and innovation.

We think that's something to celebrate! 🤷

Join us tonight to celebrate cityhood and engage in conversation about new initiatives, upcoming workplans, and major projects in West Hollywood. ✨

Each year, on December 1, we recognize World AIDS Day. ❤️

World AIDS Day is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV/AIDS, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate people who have passed away due to HIV/AIDS.

The theme of this year’s is “Let Communities Lead” to shine light on how community-led interventions are central to the end of AIDS.

The onset of the HIV/AIDS epidemic had a significant impact in West Hollywood. The disease’s elevated infection rate among gay men caused a devastatingly high number of deaths in the City.

The City was one of the first government entities to provide social services grants to local HIV/AIDS organizations and sponsored one of the first AIDS awareness campaigns in the country in October 1985.

In January 2015, we announced our vision to become an ‘HIV Zero’ city and are currently implementing our HIV Zero Strategic Initiative.

This year, the City will recognize World AIDS Day with events and programming like, the 23rd Annual Paul Andrew Starke Warrior Awards, AIDSWatch, and more.
